Udupi : Delay in distribution of ration cards dominated issue in the 17^th general meeting of Zilla Panchyat  held at Dr. V S Acharya Hall, DC office premises here on Tuesday, August 27.

Janardhan Thonse, member said that in the last 6-7 months, the issue of ration cards has not been distributed to the public. Ration card would be main way of life of the large people. He wanted to know about the reasons behind the delay of issue of ration card.

All the members insisted on the general meeting held under the chairmanship of President Dinakar Babu. Responding to this matter, Deputy Director of the Food and Civil Supplies Department Kusumadhar said that 4771 ration cards in the district are pending till March 2019. 6820 are newly applied, there is shortage of staff in the department, hiring of staff on outsourcing will be implemented soon, even if there is no ration card. Rations can be obtained; currently ready steps will be taken to issue temporary 708 cards promptly.

Vice President Sheela K Shetty said that already temporary ready ration cards should be made available prior to September 11 to the public and should inform the Zilla Panchyat members.

Janardhan Thonse said that the land allotted to the crematorium at Havange near Kolalgiri is under stress due to encroachment of said graveyard. AC, Madhukeshwar of Kundapur Sub-division said that such encroachment would be cleared immediately. After the clearance, he asked Panchayat officials to put install wire around the graveyard.

Member Jyothi Harish said that the workers working in various factories in the district could not get the Aadhar card without the birth date and qualification record and hence not able to get PF and other funds. She asked to take action in regard this and do the needful for the large number of workers.

Responding this, the AC said that as there is no record, the Aadhar card can be obtained with the permission of the civil court and that the camps will be provided with the necessary assistance through the District Legal Authority.

Reshma Uday Shetty, member, said male wardens are functioning in the girls’ hostels in the district. Meanwhile some male hostels’ female hostel wardens are functioning. She asked to appoint female warden to female hostels and male warden to male hostels. Another member Geethanjali Suvarna said that the numbers of students are increased in the district. Hence need to increase the number of hostels in the district.

There has been extensive discussion about getting R T C in the name of Anganwadis in the district, delaying the construction of a house under the Basava Housing Scheme, a large number of accidents in the Irvattur-Sanur National Highway, to prevent this and to remove dangerous trees along the roadside.

District Panchayat Education and Health Standing Committee Chairman Babu Shetty, Social Justice Committee Chairman Shashikanth Padubidri, Agriculture and Industrial Standing Committee Chairman Udaya S Kotian, ZP CEO Sindhu B Rupesh, Chief Planning Officer Srinivas Rao and Project Director Madhukar were present.
