Udupi : K A Abdul Rehman, a member of the District Waqf Advisory Committee accused the Kannangar Juma Mosque’s government committee of misusing the community that the backward and Minority departments of the state have raised Rs 50 lakh for the construction of Community Hall building at Kannangar, near Padubidri.
Speaking at a news conference on Wednesday, K A Abdul Rehman said that the mosque was built in front of the mosque as an auditorium charging the community as a rent charges for the occasions Rs. 30,000 to 50,000. He alleged that unauthorized receipts were being paid for the money.
There was no accounting of rent money from the community house. Revenue, expenditure and rent details have not been submitted to the Waqf Board. The community hall which was built to benefit the people, is being rented out for a profit. Abdul Rehman complained that this was unfair to the minorities.
The government has released a grant of Rs 20 lakh for the construction of a pilgrimage residence for the mosque. Already 5 lakhs have been utilized without doing any work. In the wake of the complaint lodged with the Waqf Board, demanded a refund of Rs 5 lakh from the Mosque. The committee has been notified. He said no payment has been made so far.
With the money and political support, the Waqf Board’s directives and suggestions have been airborne. This should be investigated immediately. He insisted that an administrator be appointed to the committee at the earliest.
In this hall, the Muslim family should get married. He alleged that he would be fined 30 thousand rupees if any got married in other halls and accused without entering the register book which is injustice.
