Udupi: A separate task force will be set up to further develop tourism in Udupi district, said Minister of State for Home and District in-charge Basavaraja Bommai.

He was speaking on the occasion of World Tourism Day at the District Secretariat Complex, Atal Bihari Vajapayee Hall on Friday, September 27,  said that with the objective of promoting tourism and employment for the Tourism and Employment Service in collaboration with the District Administration, Udupi, Department of Tourism, Malpe Development Committee and Coastal Tourism Organization.

The minister said that Udupi district has ample opportunities for tourism development, for this purpose, under the Central and State Governments’ Tourism Policy, CRZ Rules, Tourism Development, Workforce including Tourism Specialists, Entrepreneurs, Tourist Investors, Representatives and Authorities will be introduced the first task force for identifying and preparing a Vision Document on tourist attractions in all taluk level in the district. For this purpose the cooperation of the state Tourism Minister and department secretary, he said.

Minister Bommai said that while developing tourism, locals should be given greater employment. GST tax on hotels has been reduced. In order to make incredible Udupi like incredible India,  need of cooperation for tourism development in order to fully utilize the benefits.

Speaking on the occasion in his keynote address District Collector G. Jagadeesh said that tourists should focus not only on tourists but also on employment creation and locals in the field of tourism. In order to develop tourism in the district, we have solid responsibility to grow the tourism industry in the district.

Udupi MLA Raghupati Bhatt presided over the function.

District Panchayat President Dinaka Babu, Kundapur MLA Haladi Srinivasa Shetty, Karkala MLA V Sunil Kumar, Kapu MLA Lalji R Mendan, Byndoor MLA B M Sukumara Shetty, Taluk Panchayat President Neethagurraj Poojary, District Panchayat members Gitanjali Suvarna, Shilpa G Suvarna, Suresh Batavade, MRG group President K. Prakash Shetty and others were present.

Tourist taxis were distributed by the Minister on this occasion.
