Udupi: Cleanliness is a high priority for Mahatma Gandhi, who believes that environmental cleanliness is responsible for mental, physical and spiritual growth.In order to clean up the Udupi district, everyone should celebrate the 150th birth anniversary of Gandhiji by making a resolution of ’Clean Udupi - Plastic Free Udupi’, said Raghupathy Bhat MLA

He was speaking at the inauguration of the 150th birth anniversary of President Mahatma Gandhi at the Bhujanga Park, Ajjarkad  on Wednesday, October 2, under the auspices of the District Administration, District Panchayat, Municipal Council, Information and Public Relations Department and Kannada and Culture Department.

As part of Gandhiji’s birth anniversary, the Clean India Movement was set up five years ago. As Gandhiji hopes for cleanliness, citizens should be aware of cleanliness. Raghupathi Bhat said, "If you want to know about the disadvantages of plastics, you should be aware of the seriousness of the problem”

Meanwhile, MLA Raghupati Bhatt released the Papu Bapu booklet which was released by the Information and Public Relations Department.

Deputy Commissioner of Udupi district Jagadeesh also spoke during the occasion.

Gandhi thinker Dayananda Shetty Dendoor said that Gandhiji, who was liberated by non-violence, was opposed to obscurity and thought that everyone should be educated. Gandhiji said that political figures should be heartbroken. The British were also impressed by Gandhiji’s time management, influenced by Buddha, Chanakya and Narayanaguru.

Zilla Panchayat President Dinaka Babu, Udupi Taluk Panchayat President Nita Gururaja Poojary, Municipal Council members Rashmi Chittaranjan, Balakrishna Shetty, Manasi Pai, G.P. Chief Executive Officer Preethi Gehlot, ASP Kumara Chandra, Municipal Councillor Anand Kalolikar, Assistant Director of Kannada and Culture Department Kumar Bekkeri were present.

Prakash Suvarna Katapadi welcomed and presented the presentation. CMC member Dhananjay delivered the vote of thanks.

      Following the program, there was a massive cleanup process by students and voluntary organizations from various colleges.
