Udupi : The Solemnity of Mary, the Holy Mother of God was celebrated on New Year’s Eve with devotion at Milagres Cathedral, Kallianpur of the Udupi diocese here on December 31, 2019.

The evening liturgy started with the adoration of the Holy Sacrament from 6.30 pm to 7.30 pm led by Rev Fr. Jason Pais, Capuchin, guest priest from Moodubelle Friary.

Rev Fr. Jason Pais Capuchin concelebrated the Solemnity Eucharistic celebrations along with Very Rev Fr. Dr. Lawrence C D’Souza Rector of Milagres Cathedral, Rev Fr. Canute Noronha, assistant parish priest, Rev Fr. Jossy Mascarenhas, Vocational Director of Pilar Fathers, Kallianpur.

In his homily, Fr. Jason Pais said that we firmly believe in the incarnation of our Lord, Mary, Mother Mary consents to God’s invitation conveyed by the angel. Mary’s role as Mother of God places her in unique in God’s redemptive plan. The Word became flesh and made His dwelling among us, and we have seen His glory. The glory of an only Son coming from the Father filled with enduring love.

Mother Mary, the mother of the world. We should happy that God has given us the mother. The mother looks her children very well, likewise, our Mother of World also looks us very well. Mother Mary shows the way for the salvation. God protects us through the Mother Mary, he said.

 We should change our thinking for better life in years to come. The Sacrament of Repentance will lead us better to go with Jesus. It is time to look back, with thanksgiving, but also look forward into a new future with new thinking, he said.

At the end of the mass, Fr. Canute Noronha on behalf of parish priest gave gratidue to all concerned for the grand celebrations and conveyed wishes on the occasion of New Year 2020.

Parish YCS unit organized brief programme at Cathedral portico with cutting the cake by Rector, Fr. Lawrence C D’Souza, Fr. Canute Noronha, Fr. Jossy Mascarenhas, Dr. Nery Cornelio and Felciana Lewis. Prizes were distributed and lucky coupon drawn on the occasion. Housie game was conducted by the YCS members and prizes were distributed to the winners. Jenny D’Souza compered the programme.
