Udupi : It is first time in India that the people of the country fighting for their right and constitution that the friction has arisen with people versus constitution since independence. It is not fight against the Citizen Amendment Act (CAA), but it has fight against the ideology of RSS, said Ramesh Kumar, former Speaker of Karnataka Legislative Assembly.

He was addressing a huge protest gathering organized by Team Sahabalve, Udupi against CAA, National Population Registry (NPR) and Natiional Citizenship Registry (NRC) at UBMC grounds here on Thursday, January 30.

Ramesh Kumar said it was enough for us to see the saffron cloth, the flag. But all over the country now the national flag is roaring. We were not even in the time of independence .It’s lot of happiness that in our period of ending of our life, we can see millions numbers of national flag. Hence, we must congratulate Prime Minister Narendra Modi, he said.

He said like Hindus and Christians, Muslims also are also children of Mother India. Do not see them with doubt; if so Mother India will cry with tears.BJP don’t know India’s history. Even it doesn’t matter what they want. We will not let our children teach Godse culture, he said.

Being born in America will get Indian citizenship. However, those who were born and grown in India are going out to take to the streets. The Citizenship Act was not enacted in 1955 on the basis of caste. Today, the central government has been criticized for politically maliciously enforcing the law, he said.

Ramesh Kumar said that the national flag formed with the blood of Bhagat Singh, Gandhiji and Indira Gandhi. Inequality has broken out in the country, and religion is spreading in the country rather than extinguishing it. Muslims need not worry. You are not alone. Your struggle has the support of the entire Indians.

Some forces were trying to portray Muslims as outsiders which was wrong. They were born here and had contributed to the freedom struggle. But RSS which never took part in freedom struggle wanted a Hindu Rastra, he said.

There was a huge difference between refugees and infiltrators. The CAA was based on religion, discriminatory and unconstitutional. Hence, people are protesting against CAA, he said.

Another speaker of the protest meet, Mahendra Kumar former State Convener of Bajrang Dal said that we should concentrate on building the nation. When I was state level president of Bajrang Dal, I had said that it should not grow into an anti-Muslim outfit. We should look forward to breaking the country rather united on building the nation. Presently, RSS are at the helm of national politics. Actually, RSS do not have any affection for Hindus rather trying to divide the country by repeatedly referring to Pakistan. Hence, they are fail to understand that they are losing their way. The country should enjoy an atmosphere of peace what Swami Vivekananda thought of, he said.

Mahendra Kumar warned that if the way presently prevailed in the sense of Hindutva will turn into another Taliban in due course.

Chandrashekar Azad, Bhim Army president who was to deliver the prominently did not participate in the programme due to ill health. However, in a video message, he said that he is a soldier and determined to protect the constitution. The CAA, NRC and NPR were discriminatory and hence had to be opposed. The constitution of India gave equal rights to all people. But now the government was asking people to prove their identity.

He questioned that when Rafale deal files kept in a high-security area could stolen, how can you expect poor people to keep documents to prove their citizenship? Some forces wanted to divide the nation and weaken the constitution. To protest was a basis right given to an individual. Hence people should carry on peaceful protests against CAA and NPR with all vigour. The government should immediately withdraw black laws, so as to protect the country and the constitution, he said.

Kavitha Reddy social activist, Bhavya Krishnamoorthy, Student leader Amoolya and Nazma Nazeer, Mehroz Khan too addressed the protest meeting.

During the occasion, G Rajashekar thinker and social activist was felicitated. President of Udupi Sahabalve Committee Amrith Shoney gave keynote address and welcomed the gatherings. Sundar Master of Dalit Organization delivered vote of thanks. Shashidar Hemmady compered the programme. Hon. President of the committee Fr. William Martis read out the preamble to the constitution.

Vinay Kumar Soraka former minister, Assad Jaffer, Haji Abdulla Zafer, Ramesh Kanchan, Prashanth Jathanna, Yogish Shetty, Balakrishana Shetty, Roshni Oliveira and others were present on the dais.
