University College Mangaluru Celebrating glorious 150 years

Mangalore, Feb 3, 2020: One of the oldest in the state, University College Mangaluru or Government College is celebrating 150 years of existence. Many who studied in this reputed institution have carved a niche in various fields, which is a matter of pride. As a part of completing 150 successful years, the institution will organize an event on February 6, 2020, at 10.30 am in at UCM Karnataka Bank open stage of the college.

Though the institution had completed 150 years in 2018, due to many administrative reasons, the celebration was postponed. However, various activities to commemorate the golden moment were begun. As a part of it, the restoration of Ravindra Kalabhavana, the construction of the Karnataka Bank sponsored open stage has been completed.

Projects for the future:
•    Construction of 8 classrooms in Dayananda Pai block
•    Digitalization of library
•    Developing an art gallery and museum in Ravindra Kalabhavana
•    To make the mid-day meal project more effective, construction of modular kitchen and dining hall
•    As a part of Yoga Therapy training, establishing a Yoga Therapy Centre
•    Plan to start a Mangalore university Prasaranga sales complex in the college campus

Attempts are going to strengthen the existing courses in the University College Mangaluru. Meanwhile, Mangalore University has decided to take all necessary actions to develop this reputed institution as a model college. 

Including old students and dignitaries of various sections of society have wished for the success of 150-year celebrations. Old Students’ Association President Col. Sharath Bhandary, cricketer K L Rahul, ‘Ondu Motteya Kathe’ movie Director and actor Raj B. Shetty, former principals of the college Narayanan Nayar, Govinda Naik, Dr. H V Shankaranarayana, Sathyanarayana Mallipatna, retired economics professor Bhuvaneshvari Hegde, senior actor Aparna, Tulu actors Arjun Kapikad, Prajwal Hegde, Roopesh Shetty, and others have wished the best through videos. Old students including Yash Pakkala, Vishwas, Ganesh, S N Sudhakar have shared their memories through video clippings. Old students of the institute, who are working in various media organizations are trying their best to promote the event.

Details of the event:

• An exhibition put up by the University College Mangaluru and Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) will be inaugurated on February 6, at 10.20 am. 
• Dharmasthala Dharmadhikari Dr. D. Veerendra Heggade will inaugurate the function at 10.30 am and he will release the souvenir prepared as a part of 150 years of celebrations.
• The program will be presided by the Mangalore University Vice-Chancellor Prof. P S Yadapadithaya 
• Chief Postmaster General, Karnataka Circle Charles Lobo will release a special postal cover on this special occasion.
• Minister for Muzrai, Fisheries, Ports, and Inland transport, also the District in-charge Minister Kota Srinivasa Poojary, Mangalore MP Nalin Kumar Kateel, Mangalore South MLA Vedavyasa Kamath, MLA U T Khader, MLC S L Bhojegowda, MLC Ivan D’Souza, and Corporator Vinay Raj will be the chief guests for the event.
• Dignitaries like former chief minister M. Veerappa Moily, Century Builders Managing Director Dr. P. Dayananda Pai will be present.
• Chief Postmaster General, Karnataka Circle Charles Lobo, Archaeological Survey of India Superintending Archaeologist Dr. Shivakant Bajpai will be the special invitees.
• Mangalore University Registrar Prof. A M Khan, University College Mangalore Principal Dr. Uday Kumar M A, Parents- Teacher Association President P. Hemalatha and Old Students Association President Col. Sharath Bhandary will be present.
• A get-together function of old students will be held from 2.30 pm to 5 pm, and old students, present students of the University College and University Evening College will perform cultural programs from 5 pm to 7 pm.

ʼಆಯುರ್ವೇದದಿಂದ ಆಯುಷ್ಯ ಅಭಿವೃದ್ಧಿʼ

ಮಂಗಳೂರು: ಆಯುಷ್ ಇಲಾಖೆ,  ದಕ್ಷಿಣ ಕನ್ನಡ ಜಿಲ್ಲಾ ಪಂಚಾಯತ್,  ಸಮಾಜ ಕಲ್ಯಾಣ ಇಲಾಖೆಯ ಸಹಭಾಗಿತ್ವದಲ್ಲಿ ಉಚಿತ ಆಯುಷ್‌ ಚಿಕಿತ್ಸಾ ಶಿಬಿರವನ್ನು ಭಾನುವಾರ ಕದ್ರಿ ಮೆಟ್ರಿಕ್ ನಂತರದ ಬಾಲಕರ ವಸತಿ ನಿಲಯದಲ್ಲಿ ಹಮ್ಮಿಕೊಳ್ಳಲಾಗಿತ್ತು.

ಕಾರ್ಯಕ್ರಮವನ್ನು ಉದ್ಘಾಟಿಸಿ ಮಾತನಾಡಿದ ಆಯುಷ್‌ ಇಲಾಖೆಯ ಹಿರಿಯ ಆರೋಗ್ಯಾಧಿಕಾರಿ ಡಾ.ದೇವದಾಸ್,  ಆಯುರ್ವೇದ ಜೀವನ ಪದ್ಧತಿಯನ್ನು ತಿಳಿಸುತ್ತದೆ. ಆಯುರ್ವೇದವು ಕಡಿಮೆ ವೆಚ್ಚದಲ್ಲಿ ಯಾವುದೇ ರೋಗವನ್ನು ನಿವಾರಿಸಲು ಸಹಕಾರಿಯಾಗಿದೆ. ಇದಕ್ಕೆ ಸರ್ಕಾರದ ಬೆಂಬಲ ಅಗತ್ಯವಿದೆ, ಎಂದರು.

ಕದ್ರಿ ವಿದ್ಯಾರ್ಥಿನಿಲಯ ಪಾಲಕ ಸಂತೋಷ್ ಅಧ್ಯಕ್ಷತೆ ವಹಿಸಿದರೆ, ಸ್ಥಳೀಯ ಕಾರ್ಪೊರೇಟರ್ ಶಕೀಲಾ ಕಾವ ಮುಖ್ಯ ಅತಿಥಿಗಳಾಗಿದ್ದರು. ಆರೋಗ್ಯಾಧಿಕಾರಿ ಸಹನಾ ಹಾಗೂ ಡಾಕ್ಟರ್ ನೂರುಲ್ ಉಪಸ್ಥಿತರಿದ್ದರು. ವಿಶ್ವವಿದ್ಯಾನಿಲಯ ಕಾಲೇಜಿನ ವಿದ್ಯಾರ್ಥಿ ಶಂಕರ್ ನಿರೂಪಿಸಿದರು.
