Udupi: In a meeting chaired by District Collector,  G. Jagadeesh,  said that the hike in the price of auto travel in Udupi district will be increased from Rs 25 to Rs 30 effective from April 1, 2020.

He chaired the meeting on the Auto Travel Rate Revision held at the District Office, Rajathadri here on Thursday, February 6.

The district has not revised the rates after the auto revision in 2014, but the auto insurance and spare parts have been increased. In response to an appeal by leaders and drivers of auto drivers’ organizations to increase auto travel rates, DC G Jagdeesh suggested that the minimum travel rate be increased to Rs 30, with a running rate of Rs 17, with a mandatory meter on all autos. The passengers should be charged according the meter amount, DC said.

DC advised motorists to be courteous to the public, serve the public well and follow compulsory traffic rules, do not overtake on national highways, take only a fixed number of passengers in autos. He also advised compulsory custody of safety measures when taking school children.

District Collector G. Jagadeesh said that a separate meeting will be held to discuss the confusion regarding the auto rickshaw sector.

Superintendent of Police Vishnuvardhan, Regional Transport Officer Ramakrishna Rai and leaders of various rickshaw organizers and auto drivers were present at the meeting.

Auto travel rate revision effective from April 1

Udupi: The Udupi District Transport Authority has revised the rates for autorickshaws in the district with effect from 01.04.2020.

1) Minimum Rate of Rs.30.00 for 1.5 km

2) Rs.17.00 per km after that

Therefore, all Autorickshaw Drivers / Drivers in Udupi District are mandated to carry out their Autorickshaws as per the statutory permissible Flag Meter by the Department of Legal Metrology as per the above rates. The mandatory recalibration and sealing by 31.03.2020 is mandatory for the passenger to get the revised meter rate from 01.04.2020.
