Udupi : St Sebastian Ward, Thonse of Milagres Cathedral, Kallianpur near here celebrated the ward annual feast here on Sunday, 23^rd February 2020.

The ward fest celebration began with thanksgiving mass for patron of the ward, St Sebastian during 8 am mass. The liturgy of the Eucharistic celebration was held by Thonse ward faithfull. Rev Fr. Herold Pereira, Director of SCC , Udupi Diocese was the main celebrant of the mass along with Very Rev Fr. Dr. Lawrence C D’Souza Rector of the Cathedral.

At the end of the mass, ward faithful took out brief procession of relic on the occasion of the celebration.

There was get together of ward people held at Navel D’Souza’s residence campus, Nidamballi junction of the Thonse ward at 4pm.

Very Rev Fr. Lawrence C D’Souza, Rev Fr. Lancy Fernandes, sj Principal of Milagres English Schools, Gefrey Dais Vice President of parish pastoral council, Rose Convent sisters, Flavia Menezes Coordinator of parish pastoral 18 commissions, Smt Jyothi Lewis Gurkarn of the ward, Nelson Lewis and Clara were present on the dais.

After the welcome song by the ward faithful, Jyothi Lewis welcomed the gatherings. Ancilla Lewis ward secretary placed the annual ward report.

In his address, Fr. Lawrence C D’Souza appreciated the ward people for their actively participation of the church activities and leadership in various organizations. He said on the patron St Sebastian who martyred for better cause. He was an early Christian saint was killed during the Roman emperor Diocletians persecution of Christians. He was initially tied and strapped to a pole riddled with arrows and shot with arrows, though this did not kill him.

Housie game was conducted during the occasion and distributed  prizes by vicar and rector for winners in the game. Meanwhile prizes were also given to the achievers of the ward two children.

Fr Lancy Fernandes sj graced the prayers on the food. Fr. Lancy and others sang beautiful old songs in Konkani and accelerated the good atmosphere of the annual ward feast.

Nelson Lewis proposed vote of thanks and Grashel Lewis compered the programme. Large number of Thonse ward and several gurkars of the parish were present.

The Thonse ward fest usually held every year on Sunday prior to Ash Wednesday since several years which the tradition still be celebrated with unity. Formerly this ward of Thonse, also called London ward earlier years. One of the prime wards of Milagres parish now since several years become shorter due to several reasons and also migrated to city limits like Santhekatte, Manipal, Udupi and so on. Not only Thonse ward, some of the wards in remote villages areas now a days the families decreased in number neither one or two persons in the house. In fact, the number of devotees participating various feast of the church never decreased that large number of former parishioners do participate with faith and devotion to Our Lady of Miracles, especially during Good Friday, annual feast and other feasts.
