Udupi: The distribution of rations in the district will begin on April 1 and all necessary steps will be taken to distribute two months rations simultaneously in the backdrop of the Corona, said the Minister of State for Ports, Fisheries and Muzarai, Kota Srinivasa Poojary.

He was speaking at the Udupi District Panchayat Auditorium on Tuesday, March 31, on the steps taken to control coronavirus  in the district.

Kota Srinivas Poojary instructed to provide Anthodaya, BPL and APL registered ration card holders as per the government order, two months ration will be distributed in one time without mandatory of OTP number, with note of ration card number should distribute the ration. In order to avoid crowding in the rations, the shopkeepers were informed that in each store, only a limited number of ration card holders would come the ration store during the day. He suggested that the tahsildar’s of all taluks be kept in charge of distribution of rations.

Minister Kota instructed the concerned officials to distribute the remaining rice in the school to the parents of the students and to arrange the delivery of the kits to the pregnant women to their respective houses.

Minister Kota said that he would discuss with the chief minister about granting permission to the lab as soon as there are the entire necessary infrastructure to open corona detection lab in the district.

The public is advised to buy groceries in the district from 7 am to 11 am and maintain the social gap without any difficulties. Necessary food and housing has provided to the refugees in the district. Arrangements have been made to enroll suspected corona patients in 3 taluks, with the Dr TMA Pai Hospital in Udupi earmarked to treat all Covid 19 victims, The district is being provided with necessary equipment by Infosys at a cost of Rs.80 lac and also food kits and necessary items will be provided by the various local donors, said Deputy Commissioner G. Jagadeesh.

So far 2309 people have been examined in the district, 1056 people have been sent home quarantine, 1072 people have completed 14-day and 127-day 28-day quarantine. A sample of 140 suspects was sent to the laboratory, 126 were reported, 123 were negative and 3 were positive. 14 patients report are pending, 3 positive patients have been enrolled at KMC and recovery is in their health, said DHO Dr. Sudhir Chandra Sooda gave the information.

The meeting was attended by Pratap Chandra Shetty, state legislative council president, district panchayat president Dinakaru Babu, Udupi MLA Raghupati Bhat, Kapu MLA Lalaji Mendon, GP CEO Preeti Gehlot, SP Vishnu Vardhan, all district tehsildars and officials of urban local bodies and health department officials.
