Udupi : District Commissioner G Jagadeesha addressed the people of district via video on Tuesday, April 28 about the classification of the district into already declared the green zone which will benefits a district.

He said that people of the Udupi district are looking forward being classified as green zone by the Union government after completion of 28 days since it received the third positive coronavirus case in the district. There will not be any further relaxations and the lockdown will continue till May 3 with minimum relaxations and the district has already initiated relaxations and mandatory guidelines have to be implemented.

He said that small shops have been allowed to open for economic activity in the green sector. The air conditioning system should not be used anywhere. Clean, spacious, masked, business transactions can be done. Section 144 is in force. No more than five people can join. Programs such as weddings and funerals should be carried out within the shelf.

Temperature screening should be arranged in the workplace. Sanitizer should be used. Above 65 years of age and 5 years of age should be taken care of at home. There is a suggestion that the health bridge app should be used.

Frequent hand washing should be arranged in carrying out the work. Spacing should also be maintained during meals. Cleanliness should not be compromised. Industries and enterprises other than urban areas may operate. At the minimum staff must work without any rules. They have to arrange for their staff to leave and bring to workplace. If allowed, such stores and sectors will be bundled and sealed if they exceed the rules of cleanliness, mask and spacing.

The provisions under the Shops and Establishments Act will strictly be introduced. The beauty parlours/Spa, Salons, jewellery shops, multi/single outlets will be shut. The hotels can be open to offer takeways only. The factories will be opened in rural areas while agriculture, farming, horticulture and other essential activities like construction works will be resuming with existing workers and not outsiders. There is no provision to sell food on the side of the street, including Egg rice and Panipuri. Alcohol and gutka tobacco cannot be sold. The restriction will continue until May 3, with the exception of what is now relaxed. The shops will be open from 7am to 11 am only.

The DC has strictly warned action against public transport like autorickshaw drivers venturing out and reminded about seizing of such vehicles. More than 750 vehicles already have been seized. He urged people to adhere to social distancing in public places and inside the work place. All the workers, employees are required to wear masks, use sanitizers, he said.

DC said that he had consultations with the district police superintendent and furnished specific instructions to the police as well as nodal officers to keep a check on and should abide by the lockdown rules strictly. The relaxation by the government was given to overcome the economic crisis due to COVID 19 and requested people to comply with the lockdown rules strictly until May 3.
