Udupi: The discharge rate of Covid-19 infected people in Udupi has increased and all positive cases in the district will be discharged within the next 10 days. Officials in the district have been advised to be vigilant so that no casualties can be reported from Covid in the district. With the cooperation of the officials and elected representatives, all efforts will be done in making the district a non-covid district in the state, said district in-charge and home minister Basavaraj Bommai.

He was speaking at a press conference after a progress review meeting held at the District Panchayat Hall on Monday, June 8.

Covid-19 has examined 12540 people in the district so far, out of which 11566 reported negative and 946 positive cases. Of this, 98 percent were returnees from Mumbai, Maharastra and 318 people have discharged from the various places covid hospitals in Udupi district. The test was held in Udupi district, one of the largest quarantine centers in the state. Minister Bommai said that 929 of the infected persons had no symptoms.

The present district is quarantined by the people from Maharashtra in their village, who are under the charge of a village task force to look after them. Senior officials have been advised to conduct a surprise visit to these centers, minister said.

The minister said that the district has a collection of 4500 treble layer mask, 10740 N-95 masks, 2745 PPE kit and there is no shortage of equipment that requires covid treatment. Chief Ministers will be given clear direction on the sealing of the house of a person only that has seen a positive case in the district.

The Government Covid Lab in Udupi will be commissioned on 10th-12th day and the staffs have been provided with necessary training in this regard. Attempts to recruit staff at Kundapur and Karkala Hospital likewise district hospital in Udupi. In order to fight against covid, necessary personnel including Asha Health workers and ANM will be recruited on contract basis, minister Bommai said.

He said the NREG program in the district is progressing, the last year is 77190, the human day creation is 210000 human days this year, 1640 houses block of housing has been cleared.

The minister in charge congratulated the district on the task of handling the Covid-19 problem, the most challenging of the quarantine centers, which was handled with great efficiency, and that all the staffs were on duty.

To a query on illegal extraction of sand in the Swarna River, minister said that that particular case is in Lok Ayuktha and they will investigate the case, and if any defaulters’,  will be persecuted as per the law.  

Udupi MLA Raghupathy Bhat, Kaup MLA Lalaji Mendon, Karkala MLA Sunil Kumar, Zilla Panchayat president Dinakar Babu, Byndoor MLA Sukumar Shetty, Chairman of the Coastal Development Authority Mattaru Ratnakar Hegde, District Collector G. Jagadeesh, Zilla Panchayat CEO Preeti Gehlot and other were present during the press conference.
