Udupi : Milagres College, Kallianpur one of leading best institution in the district and in Mangalore University marching towards the initiative of installing Solar Energy System and renovating Chemistry laboratory which was held on Saturday, June 27, 2020.

Bishop of Udupi Diocese and President of Catholic Education Society of Diocese Most Rev Dr. Gerald Isaac Lobo was inaugurated and blessed with cutting the ribbon of Chemistry Laboratory hall and clicking on the Solar Energy System electric grid board. Bishop conducted the prayer services and shrinking of Holy Water on the laboratory premise.

After the inauguration, brief stage programme held at College Video-Audio hall which Bishop Most Rev Dr. Gerald Isaac Lobo presided over the programme. Very Rev Dr. Lawrence C D’Souza, Correspondent of Milagres Educational Institutions and Rector of Milagres Cathedral, Dr. Vincent Alva Principal of Milagres College, Salvadore Noronha President of Milagres College Alumni Association, Prof. Joseph Peter Fernandes Dean of Science Faculty and HOD of Chemistry, Dr. Sureka Bhat Faculty representative were present on the dais.

In his presiding address, Bishop said that the inauguration of Solar Energy System and renovated Chemistry laboratory is the way of important day. The installation of Solar Energy system for the college will helpful to economical profit. More than Rs. 27,000 monthly electric power consumption bill will be saved. We should have use the God given opportunity. It will save the water also that for the one unit of electric power, around 17 liters of water needed. Solar energy system saves the water also. Teachers used to give the say for the students that environment should be saved. We executed what we have taught to the students through this project. This is the model for other institutions. Bishop said that Pope Francis called the people should protect, preserve and promote the good environment.

Further Bishop said that Chemistry laboratory is very important for the students of Science in modern era. It will help the students to understand and research the better way. Students should take advantage in the renovated chemistry lab of the college.

Earlier Rev Dr. Lawrence C D’Souza said that solar energy system would minimize the financial burden of the college while the renovated chemistry laboratory would get more beneficial for the students to study and research. He gave gratitude to the donor of the solar energy installation panel Stephen Cornelio, Alumnus in the name of his parents late Albert Cornelio and late Cymprian Cornelio of Kakkunje with donating entire panel cost of Rs. 15 lakh. He also gave gratitude to Bhaskar Naik, Alumnus of the college sponsored Rs 5 lakh for the renovation of the chemistry laboratory. He said the installation of solar energy system and renovation of chemistry laboratory is financially big boon for the Milagres College.

Dr. Vincent Alva at the end gave gratitude to all concerned including Gopalan Palan main person to installing the solar energy system panel and delivered vote of thanks. Earlier Very Rev Dr. Lawrence C D’Souza welcomed the gathering. Rosalia Cardoza compered the programme.

Former Principal Dr Gerald Pinto, Chemistry faculty of the college Rev Fr. Dr Prakash Anil Castalino,  Asst parish priest Rev Fr. Canute Noronha, former retired professors, alumni members, parish pastoral council and management members, faculty and others were present.
