Udupi : The plan to establish Udupi Smart City under way that DPR already finished and need approval from the state government, said Raghupathy Bhat, local MLA.

During the first Udupi City Municipal meeting after two and half years after the city council election was held under newly appointed President of Udupi City Municipal Council Sumithra Nayak at council hall here on Thursday, November 26, Raghupathy Bhat said that Qogno digital infrastructure private limited working in establishing Udupi Smart City is not project of Union government which total cost estimation of the plan is Rs 130 crore. After the DPR need the approval of the state government and tender will done after the approval, Bhat said.

Gururak Naik from Qogno digital infrastructure private company, a nodal officer mentioned the plan of smart city which includes Udupi, Manipal and Malpe. He placed the vision of the project, digitization of Udupi city, Hawker booth, rain water harvesting and so on.

Sumithra Nayak welcomed the all members, officials and others. The programme began with taking oath from the members on the occasion of Union Constitution Day.

Member Ramesh Kanchan told to the chair that due to court order, it would be not fair to conduct the council meeting that it will confuses us for the members. City Municipal Commissioner Anand Kallolikar said in reply to the member that due to court stay-order on decision of High Court, council meeting will be conducted.

Member of the opposition Celine Karkada read out about the decision of opposition leader of the council that member Ramesh Kanchan from Bailoor ward would be opposition leader of the council.

During the first meeting of the council, various issues in regard to street lights, drainage problems, Indrani river, water problems especially in upper areas of Manipal.

Sumithra Nayak gave suitable reply to various members accordingly. She said a special meeting will be scheduled to discuss the water supply problems in the city. She also said that in future council meetings all councilors have a chance to ask two questions with prior notice in writing, so that the officials can get time to prepare a report on the subjects. However, all the councilors will get an opportunity to share their grievances on their respective wards.
