Udupi : In order to face the newly wave of the COVID-19 pandemic, the state government has been given new guidelines and same guidelines should be followed in the Udupi district also. As per the covid guidelines for the festivals, entertainments and other large gatherings, government has  given  instructions to the district administration, said G Jagadeesha, District Collector.

Speaking to media persons at Ajjarkad ground premises on Tuesday, March 30, DC said that earlier governments guidelines there was no entertainment programmes and large gatherings in public places. But in present guidelines, it is said that no entertainment programmes in public places and no religious programmes in public places. The religious programmes should be conducted within the guidelines of the government. The conducting Yakshagana, dramas and shows in cinema theatres not cancelled and can be showed. But, social distancing, sanitizing and other guidelines should be strictly followed.

DC warned that during the shows and other public gatherings like marriages, if the covid guidelines not followed, such persons or institutions should be severely taken legal procedures, he said.

To a query of the media persons on situation of Covid in the district, DC said that the covid situation in the district is under control and there need not be panicked. There has been covid positive cases in the MIT campus and hence we can see the more infected in the district. In MIT campus there is presently 15% covid infection while in whole district only 2%. Hence, there is no need to panic. But need to get awareness on the spread of the pandemic.  Earlier,  in January there was only 0.5% and after it was in February only 0.1%. In present situation there is only 0.2% covid in the district. There is no need to put lockdown in the district. But public should maintain the strict covid guidelines of the government, he said.

The educational institutions should strictly adhere and follow the covid guidelines of the government. But some educational institutions are not following the guidelines. Presently in four educational institutions found covid infection students which show the negligence of the educational bodies. Hence, the district administration has given instructions to DDPI and DDPO to check the institutions of private, government, aided and non-aided schools and colleges. Those who failed the covid guidelines and instructions, the district administration will take action on them, DC warned.

DC further said that the district administration neglected the application for conducting Udupi Utsav this year and not given permission to conduct the same. Meanwhile, without permission of the district administration whichever functions of large gathering not allowed, he said.
