Udupi : As per the instruction given by chief secretary of the state, the district administration has been identified 500 acres of land for establishing  large scale industry in the district, said G. Jagadeesh, district collector.

Addressing after inauguration of “Monthly Interaction with media” programme at Udupi Press Club here on Thursday, G. Jagadeesh in reply to media persons on role of district administration to establish large scale industries where scarcity of such industries in the district, said that it would be difficult for identify the land for large scale industries in the district. However, plenty of lands available for the medium scale as well as small scale industries in the district. There are large numbers of people who invest for the large scale industries. Hence, there are instructions from the government to identify the land. When Brahmavar Sugar Factory has not restarted, we have plan to establish large scale industry in Brahmavar Sugar Factory premises, he said.

DC said that we have sent proposal to the government for establishing industrial zone at 60 acres of land at Byndoor and also send proposal for the same at Kaup panchayat limit. We already identified land at Brahmavar for the industrial zone. We also sent proposal to the government for establishing textile part at Karkala, Shilpakala park, Furniture park and also plan to establish food park in all taluks.

In reply to sale of Suzlon company land at Palimar/Padubidri area, DC said that the permission has given to Suzlon from the Union as well as state government to the sale of company land. The district administration has nothing to do about the Suzlon and also not interfere for the same.

To a query, DC said that due to poor planning for the drainage system in the Udupi city, Indrani river water has  been contaminated and also drainage completely out of order. It would be possible to re-establish of drainage system in the city could be avoid the contamination of Indrani rivulet. Hence the work of UGD survey already started. In order to repair the UGD need Rs. 400 crore.

In reply to media persons on preparation for the upcoming rainy season, DC said the district administration geared in relate to rain disaster that last year due to flood situation, heavy losses incurred for the district administration. But, this year we plan to establish well established control room and sent the proposal for the same to state. The district administration has planned to supply boats to 64 gram panchayats, DC said.

In relate to second wave of Corona virus pandemic, there is no need to panic on increase of Corona infection in our district. There are 480 oxygen beds under government and out of that only four are used so far. There are 90 ICU beds in the district and only 10 ICU units are used. There are 55 ventilators, out of which only two are used. There are 35 HFNCs, only four are used in the district. As per the government order, including KMC Manipal, all private hospitals should reserve 20% beds for corona patients. 50% reserve for covid patients in government hospitals in Udupi district.

DC further said that second wave of coronavirus infections started in MIT, Manipal which more than 1000 people were infected and declared that area as Containment zone. Since 15 days 34,900 people tested for the corona and 1101 people were infested. The positive rate only 3.15%, However, since three days 7383 people were tested and only 236 people were infected which 3.19%. The district positive rates are very less compared to other districts of the state. We have no shortage of vaccinations in our district. Above 45 years people should take the vaccination very badly. However he said due to nearly 95% of the cases of asymptomatic, there could be chances of increasing the virus. Every day above 2500 people are subjected to covid tests. The district administration recruited 50 swab test centers and recruited more vehicles also.

In reply to the media persons on his services is concerned, he is very happy in his duties as IAS officer. He said he was brought up with very difficulties due to poor life situation on earlier days. He completed TCH and appointed as a teacher, later after his graduation, he completed Bed and he appointed as high school teacher. He was very fond of becoming a teacher in relate to develop his family’s financial condition. Later, he passed KAS with 14^th rank and with honestly I served as KAS officer. Now I was promoted as IAS officer and I am happy in my present position. But, I dream to work as Educational Commissioner with the intention to provide education for the poor people. After the tenure of deputy commissioner, I am going to ask the concerned ministers to appoint him as educational commissioner.
