India records over 3.23 lakh new Covid-19 cases, 2,771 deaths in last 24 hours.. The country currently has 28,82,204 active cases.

India, in the last 24 hours, recorded 3,23,144 fresh Covid-19 cases, taking the cumulative tally to 1,76,36,307. Of these, 28,82,204 are active cases. 2,771 deaths were also reported on Monday. While Maharashtra reported 48,700 cases, Uttar Pradesh’s number stood at 33,351.

Early on Tuesday, the country received 95 oxygen concentrators and 100 ventilators from the United Kingdom as the country continues to fight against depleting resources amid the second wave of the novel coronavirus.

’Shooter Dadi’ Chandro Tomar contracts coronavirus, admitted to hospital

Octogenarian shooter Chandro Tomar, nicknamed ’Shooter Dadi’, has tested positive for Covid-19 and admitted to a hospital due to difficulty in breathing. The Twitter page of the 89-year-old legendary shooter, hailing from the Baghpat village in Uttar Pradesh, posted the development. "Dadi Chandro Tomar has tested positive for coronavirus and has been admitted to a hospital due to breathing problem. God protect all - Family," a tweet on her page read. (PTI)

Delhi’s Sir Ganga Ram Hospital receives 2 tonnes of liquid oxygen

Sir Ganga Ram Hospital here received two tonnes of liquid medical oxygen on Tuesday morning, an official from the hospital said.

The official asserted that they are in a “better situation” as compared to "the last few days" when the hospital in central Delhi faced a crisis due to severe shortage of the life-saving gas.

The hospital said it has 6000 cubic metres of oxygen in storage tanks which may last for 10 hours.  "We received two tonnes of liquid medical oxygen at 6 am on April 27. Yesterday, we had received a tanker carrying 10 tonnes of liquid medical oxygen. We are in a better situation as compared to the last few days and we hope this continues," said the official. (PTI)

India to receive first batch of Russia’s Covid-19 vaccine on May 1

India will receive a first batch of Russia’s Sputnik V vaccine against COVID-19 on May 1, the head of the Russian Direct Investment Fund, Kirill Dmitriev, told Reuters on Monday.

He did not say how many vaccines would be in the first batch or where they would be made.

India, in the grip of a second wave of the pandemic, is struggling to tackle surging coronavirus infections that are overwhelming hospitals, and countries like Britain, Germany and the United States have pledged to send urgent medical aid. (Reuters)

The Indian Railways has delivered nearly 450 tonnes of oxygen till Tuesday morning. 6 loaded tankers with more than 90 tonnes of oxygen are presently en-route from Bokaro to Jabalapur and Mandideep (near Bhopal) and 3 tankers are on its way to Bokaro to pick up Oxygen for UP today: Indian Railways. Lockdown crucial, else might lose 200-300 lives each day: Goa Health Minister

Goa Health Minister Vishwajit Rane said that a lockdown in the state was crucial to save lives as the state reported its highest single-day Covid toll of 38 on Monday.

“In my interaction with experts, I have been told that we might lose 200-300 more lives per day in the next 10 days, the situation is really grim. We are doing our best to save lives. I am confident that Hon’ble CM will take our request into consideration on priority,” Rane wrote on Twitter.

’Oxygen Express’ arrives in Delhi from Chhattisgarh

The “Oxygen Express” train arrived at Delhi Cantt from Raigarh in Chhattisgarh on Tuesday as the national capital continues to fight against a shortage in supply. (ANI)
