Little Flower Trophy 2011 winner’s award bagged by Moodubelle ICYM and Runners by Padukone ICYM team

Kemmannu : Little Flower Trophy 2011 was held on Sunday on the 4 th of December at Kemmannu church grounds . This event that was organised by Kemmannu ICYM for 3 varados saw a grand success. The inaugural program was presided by Rev Fr. J. B. D’souza the parish priest of Kemmannuu. The guest of Honor was Rev. Fr. Michael Rodriguez, The ICYM varado Director.

 

The dignitaries inaugurated the program by lighting of Lamp and by freeing peigons to mark the start of the event. Rev Fr J B wished all the players good luck and served the first service. 12 teams namely Padukone, Basrur, Barkur, Mt. Rosary, Thottam, Kemmannu, Udupi, Brahmavara, Gangolli, Moodbelle, Kolalgiri, Perampalli participated in the event.

 

The teams were divided in 2 pools and matches begun from 10.45 Am in the morning. The first rounbd was played between Basrur and Padukone which was a nail biting sensational match in which Padukone emerged winners. The matches were of 15 points and 3 sets each in the qualifiers.The referees for the event were Vinay Shet, PED Milagres High School, Shaina, Vetran Volleyball player and Umanath.

 

Matches continued throught the day and gradually one team kept eliminating from every match. All participants were given Momentos and participation certificates. By evening crowds gathered in huge numbers to witness the match between kolalgiri and Kemmannu. the Kemmannu team failed the first set but gave good fight back in the second. The third set was a fight match and Kolalgiri managed to obtain the ticket to the next round.

 

The crowd was entertained by the commentary of Steve D’souza, Nagraj and Braan D’souza Kemmannu. The semi Finals saw a fight match between Udupi and Moodbelle where, the Udupi team played with veterans like Johnny, Biju and Donald and on the other hand moodbelle was playing with young and emerging talents like Viven and Avil.moodbelle managed to defeat Udupi and Make it to the Finals on side and on the other end the one sided game of Mt.Rosary Vs Padukone gave an entry ticket to Padukone due to the excellent attacking of Glavan, a tenth std student who made the crowd go crazy.

 

 A stage program was held at around 8.30Pm before the finals which was presided by Young industrialist Pramod Madwaraj. Kemmannu ICYM planned a felicitation programme for 2 players who have shown their passion and interest for volley ball. The first one was Ronald Fernandes from Thottam, who is a veteran volley ball player playing now for more than 25 years. His dedication and passion towards the game was something worth to be felicitated.

 

The second achiever was Clinton from Padukone . The passer from their team is physically challenged and cannot speak. However he too has been playing volley ball for long time now. Clinton’s extraordinary talent of communicating with the team and lifting the ball at exact positions also won him the best passer award.

 

Pramod Madwaraj felicitated both these players and also wished the team’s good luck. He congratulated ICYM for organizing such a good tournament. The finals saw a good crowd and the match were cleared in a 2 set win by Moodbelle team.

 

The closing ceremony saw a display of fireworks and crackers. The stage program was presided by Fr Michael Rodrigues who praised Kemmannu ICYM for their effort and for briging out the match in such a wonderful way. He also thanked the sponsors who have donated and helped to bring out the match in such a beautiful manner.The winners award bagged by Moodbelle and Runners by Padukone . The Best attacker Glavan Padukone and Passer Clinton Padukone and best allrounder Viven from Moodbelle were all awarded by the guest on the dias.

 

Ivan from Moodbelle shared his joy on winning the trophy and also thanked ICYM kemmannu for organizing it. He expressed his happiness on the way the entire trophy was organized. YCS volunteers worked hard as ground staff and supporting staff for the event . The closing ceremony was compered by Leslie Aroza
