Sri Krishna temple observes in a low-key celebration of Sri Krishna Leelotsava Vittla Pindi at Udupi

Udupi : In a low-key celebration amid the covid pandemic, the Sri Krishna Temple observed “Sri Krishna Leelotsava, popularly known as Vitla Pindi on Tuesday, August 31, 2021. The people were permitted to have darshan of Lord Krishna from 7.30am to 1pm. Devotees were given to offer arghya to the Lord after 12.30am in front of Kanakana Kindi and Madhwa Matapa.
Earlier, the clay idol of Lord Sri Krishna was carried in golden palanquin through the Car Street prior to immersion in the temple pond. The presiding deity inside the sanctum sanctorum was decorated in diamond armour. The procession started from the entrance of Sri Krishna temple which Eshapriyatheertha Swamiji of Paryaya Adamar Math installed the clay idol of Lord Sri Krishna on the top of the golden chariot. The golden chariots were pulled around the Car Street with traditional drum beaters and the temple staff as well.
A group of people with green colored chest and half dressed in husk dress broke the hanging pots using huge bamboo sticks at Car Street during the procession as usual.
After the procession, the clay idol was immersed in the temple lake ‘Madhwa Sarovar’ in front of the temple. The seers and devotees also took a dip in the holy lake on the occasion.
Due to the covid-19 pandemic, the district administration had directed the organizers of Sri Krishna Janmashtami to make the Vittla Pindi celebrations in a low-key affair. The general public was advised not to participate in the Car Street procession after 3pm. The entrance gates were closed in order to avoid the people to enter the Car Street.
