Udupi : Newly appointed Udupi District Deputy Commissioner M Kurma Rao after taking over his job , began his service by visiting the High School and Pre-University College at Udupi on Wednesday, September 1.

District Collector M Kurma Rao interacted with the students of Government Women High School and PU College at Udupi. He has taken various problems of the students during the covid pandemic who are not able to attend the school and colleges and understood their experiences in relation to the education.

Meanwhile he advised the students to follow the covid guidelines and keep distance along with wearing a face mask.

After visiting the schools and colleges in the city, speaking with the media, DC said that he got a special opportunity to welcome the students and got a moment to listen to their experience. He also said that he has been really happy with the students as well as schools have made good arrangements and precautionary measures taken by the schools as per the covid guidelines.

DC said that there is a need to eradicate covid pandemic and should work together to make the country Covid-free. He also said that there should be a need to focus on unvaccinated people and get them vaccinated at the earliest.

To a query on the government imposing weekend curfew in Udupi district, DC said that just now I joined the service. The government has passed the said order. I can speak in relation to weekend curfew after conducting a meeting with people, elected political representatives and the concerned officers.

DC M Kurma said that he will work on priority and based on the opinion of the general public, political representatives and the officials and take necessary action wherever required after touring the district. He said that outgoing DC G Jagadeesha explained the current circumstances in the district.

He said that he had earlier worked as an assistant commissioner in Bhatkal of Uttar Kannada district.
