Udupi : Milagres College, Kallianpur B.Com batch of 1976-79 bustled with activity full day on Thursday, November 24, 2022 at Uppinakote King of Kings resort as old friends  gathered to recollect memories of their good old days.

The get together was arranged by some of the core group of Milagres College Bcom batch mates with an aim to bring lost friends together to relieve their memories of college days after 43 long years which the come committee collectively decided to find maximum members. Out of 78 students in the first year batch of 1976-77, three students left out the studies due to university semester system. Out of remained 75 students, we have lost three friends till today. Out of 75 remaining 72 batch mates due to most successful efforts of some, succeeded to form What’s App group with 69 batch mates which has not easy to unite in the said group under Milagres College Bcom 1978-79 group.

However, the feeling of true happiness lies in meeting someone in person rather than interacting with them on the social media. The finding batch mates was a difficult task as back then there was no cellphones  or even no landlines to stay connected. This is truly memorable get together after 43 years, some of whom arrived from abroad, Mumbai, Poona and other cities of the country.

Prior to leave the destination place at Uppinakote near Brahmavar, some are struggled recognizing their batch class mates at muster point at Santhekatte in front of GSJ Galaxy building. The excitement was palpable where gathering after a gap of 43 years. It had all started off some enthusiastic class mates of batch 1975-79 formed what’sApp group called Milagres College 1978-79 group and graudlly decided to grow it. They did not know even what massages to post. Back in the 1970s, the boys and girls had been too timid to gave much to do with each other, forget interacting the way today’s generation does. At the beginning, getting our college mates together was a very arduous task. It was difficult to locate them after such a long span of time, but gradually the group grew, very slowly at first then faster to over 68 members out of 72 members. Gradually, the posts stirred a desire to have get together around Udupi and Mumbai in order to everybody felt it necessary to meet in person, most of us being naturally curious about how the ravages of time had affected one another. But, how was the possible? Over the years we spread over to US, Canada, U K., Australia and several cities abroad and cities in India. Majority of us had retired after working abroad and had now settled down in India. In fact, our most enthusiastic members, hell bent on suddenly organizing a reunion was in Uppinakote.

As soon as we reached the destination at Uppinakote, present principal of Milagres College, Dr. Vincent Alva along with PRO of the College visited and gave his brief about the college and Alumni Association. He found very happy that such a big reunion of the college after four decades has been memorable one. He appreciated the reunion and invited all the persons to visit the college and hold the reunion without any difficulties and burden. He also invited for the get together of the Milagres Alumni, supposed to hold at Mumbai on December 4. He honored to all the members of reunion of 1976-79 batch with handing over beautiful rose with love. This day is very important to provide an opportunity for everyone to meet each other after so many years. It also helps the alumni to notice the various changes through which the college has gone through over the past years.

Followed by, all the members crossed to King of Kings resort in beautiful huge boat with sound of music and rounded off the sites of Hoode and other Kudrus.

As soon as we reached the destination at resort, several games were conducted prior to the lunch and later which masterminded by Joslyn Lewis, Denzil Crasto Britto, Vijayalaxmi, Ramadevi and Joyce Saldanha. Various spot games and Housie game was conducted by the Joslyn, Denzil and others. Lots of cash prizes and in kind distributed to all the winners. Fruits, sweet chocolates brought from abroad and local added sweet to all the participants as well. Meanwhile local made chacculis, rolls and other served by local members. All the members introduced themselves on life after the graduation and enjoyed the introduction of each member. 

A fellowship lunch served to all the participants. As soon as once again the conducted games for everyone after the lunch. The programme winded up after enjoying tea and tiffin at the end.

Nothing beats a college batch mate group of friends from a tine which we are incapable of selfishness. As social beings we crave for opportunities to exchange our collective memories, ideas, views, experiences, opinions, and agendas placed for the batch mates is just the occasion on to get together with old friends whom we have not met for decades. We were all too happy to head back to their alma mater and warmly embrace those they have spent the most cherished part of their lives within the hallowed portals of the Milagreans.

Reunion is a great way to relieve the past by getting nostalgic and reminiscing good old days with former classmates and Alma Mater. Reunion is a most awaited event for the batch mates to experience the joyful moment of reuniting with their old friends across the globe and the chance to relieve some of the messy fun of college after four decades. It is a great way to bring friends back and has potential to bring great rewards for their alma mater. Although reunion with old friends is a large part of what the reunions are about, it is a great way to emphasize the advantage of such a network for professional group.
