Dubai, October 2012: Rev. Fr. Marcel Saldanha, the Parish Priest of Kumble Church was here in Dubai to attend the ’TULUVERE PARBA’ as chief guest organised by Nama Tuluveru on the 5th of October. During a brief chat with the Kemmannu News Network Team member Fr. Marcel was asked to comment his views about the good news of the formation of the New Diocese of Udupi and here are some of the excerpts of this conversation.

KNN: Being the immediate past parish priest of Milagres Chruch Kallianpur, how do you feel that the announcement of the New Diocese came after your term in Kallianpur and Did you knew about the news of the cathedral before it got announced, if yes then did you do any preparation work?

Fr. Marcel: Everything there is a time and it happens when it has to happen. It was not in my hand and may be the time was not ripe that time for the New Diocese and about the Cathedral at Milagres, Yes, I knew that the Milagres church would be the Cathedral and I am very happy about this and yes I have done some preparations like Mahadwara at the entrance of the church, interlocks, garden and beautification work, new look to the church with paintings and chandeliers and also a museum for the institutions.

KNN: There are rumors saying that the Bishop house will be in Udupi or at the Mount Rosary and not in the cathedral, do you know anything about this and want to share with our Viewers.

Fr. Marcel: I do not know where the Bishop’s house is going to be? It is in the hands of the New Bishop. However, the Cathedral is the parish of the Bishop he will have a Special Room in the Cathedral church residence for his stay whenever he comes.

KNN: What are the expectations from the New Diocese? How do people get benefited by a Diocese?

Fr. Marcel: I have no idea about the expectations of the people after forming a new diocese. However, new Bishop, Jerald Isaac Lobo is people oriented person. I am sure the Bishop and the people’s representatives will work out the needs of the time and execute them on priorities.

KNN: What is your message to the people of New Diocese and kemmannu.com?

Fr. Marcel: When changes take place various opinions are expressed. There are pro and anti opinions about the new Diocese. The new house has to be formed and established. The new Diocese/Cathedral should not be a factor of honor or prestige but a God given opportunity to work for the betterment of the people, irrespective of caste and creed, poor or rich, look around and work in the true spirit of Jesus Christ with clear vision and mission. I wish the new Bishop, the New Diocese and the people of Udupi Diocese all the best in the new responsibility in building the kingdom of God.
