Print Udupi July 21: The Udupi District Badminton Association organised an All India Sub-Junior Ranking Badminton tournament 2014 on Sunday July 20 at the district indoor stadium, Ajjarkad. Minister for Youth Services and Sports Abhayachandra Jain has said that Rs 20 lakh has been released for laying lawns inside the synthetic track, at Ajjarakadu Mahatma Gandhi stadium, Udupi.
Speaking at All India Sub Junior Ranking Badminton tournament, at Udupi indoor stadium on Sunday, he said the State government has released Rs five lakh for organising the tournament. The work on swimming pool will be accelerated and will be completed at the earliest. A pool to meet the international standard will be constructed at Udupi in the future.Addressing the gathering, he said that the government, NGO’s and businessmen should go hand in hand, only then the state can function smoothly. He promised to give Rs 70 lac, for promoting sports in the district and added that he plans to have an international swimming pool in the district.
The tournament will be held at four badminton courts at Ajjarakadu and Manipal. The qualifying rounds will be held till July 23. The main rounds will be held from July 24.
MLA Pramod Madhwaraj presided over the programme. Raghupati Bhat ex MLA CMC President P Yuvaraj, Manipal University Pro Chancellor Dr H S Ballal and others were present.
The tournament will commence from July 21 and will conclude on July 27.Around 1300 children, aged between 13 and 15 gathered enthusiastically from various states for the tournment.
