Gowda’s son, starlet summoned for recording statements

Two days after a Kannada starlet filed a complaint of rape and cheating against Railway Minister D V Sadananda Gowda’s son, police today said Karthik Gowda and the woman were summoned for recording statements.

"We had summoned both, the Kannada starlet and union minister’s son Karthik Gowda, for recording their statements in the case last evening," City Police Commissioner M N Reddi told PTI here.

"We are, for the second day, continuing to record statements of the actress," he added.The case triggered a storm in the state after the small-time model-turned-actress lodged a complaint against Karthik, who was booked under sections 376 (punishment for rape) and 420 (cheating) of the Indian Penal Code.

The actress had claimed that Karthik and she had got married at Gowda’s residence in Mangalore in June in the presence of only the driver of Gowda’s son.

Breaking down before the media at her residence, the woman alleged that Karthik and his family were meting out injustice to her as they were rich and powerful.

"They (Karthik and family) are doing injustice to me. They have money and status, but I want truth to come out, people should know about it, no other woman should undergo such things, so I have come forward...," she said.

The woman said the police had summoned her last evening and taken some important documents including birth and educational certificates. "They (police) have taken my age proof, marks card and information regarding my education.."

Expressing dissatisfaction over some reports questioning her integrity in the case, she said some electronic channels were spreading wrong information about her.

"I request you (media) - I have not committed any mistake, I have truth with me, despite knowing that all these things will happen, my family may have to undergo lots of pain, I came forward to fight it out," she said.

The Railway Minister has asserted that his son had been "falsely implicated" but said the law should take its own course on the complaint.

Bangalore Police Commissioner M N Reddi had said yesterday police would act as per law. "Yes we will summon him and if found guilty, will arrest him," he said.

A case of rape was registered against the son of railway minister DV Sadananda Gowda on a complaint by a woman who claimed that she is married to him, even as his engagement ceremony took place on Wednesday.

A model, who has acted in a Kannada film as a heroine, claimed she is married to the minister’s son, who got engaged to another woman at a ceremony at Kushalnagar in Kodagu District on Thursday.

"She has filed a complaint in RT Nagar police station against Karthik Gowda, Sadananda Gowda’s son, for allegedly raping and cheating her," Bangalore Police Commissioner M N Reddi said.

The case has been booked against Karthik under sections 376 (punishment for rape) and 420 (cheating) of the Indian Penal Code, Reddi said.

The actress spoke to the media from Coorg in Karnataka and is yet to arrive in Bangalore, while the Gowda family has so far remained tightlipped. Gowda himself however has claimed this was a conspiracy to tarnish his name and blackmail his family.

The model claims that she and Karthik know each other from May 8, 2014 and became very close friends. Now, the model wants Gowda to accept her their daughter-in-law.

Speaking to media she said, “my family was looking for a groom and on June 5, 2014 Karthik married me. I request them to accept me as their daughter-in-law.

Karthik, she claimed, had also told her that he would convince her parents, she said. "How can he (Karthik) get engaged to another girl when he is already married to me," she said.

Later, she also alleged that Karthik Gowda had called her to his Mangalore house, and tied mangalsutra on her neck and then forced her.

She said, I will file case if they don’t accept me, I don’t want any other woman to suffer this. Nobody contacted me from his (Karthik’s) family. Sources are trying to talk to my sister saying I shouldn’t contact media.”

“I can’t take any one else as my husband, Karthik Gowda is my husband” she added.

Gowda expressed shock at the allegation and suspected a conspiracy and attempt to blackmail, while his son Karthik rejected the woman’s claim.

Sadananda Gowda told reporters in Kushalnagar that he was ’shocked’ and ’hurt’ at the allegations levelled by her. "My life is an open book. I will not lie or cheat public. I am shocked by this kind of blackmail."

"I will speak to my son. I have to think if a girl has to blackmail, if Sadananda Gowda becomes a scapegoat", he said.

Reacting to the woman’s claims, Karthik said, "There is nothing like that. My father is a respectable man. why should I spoil it."

Police are yet to verify her claims as the medical tests have not been carried on either the model who claimed they had physical relations too or Gowda’s son (Karthik).

Youth Congress activists protest against Sadanand Gowda and his family in Bangalore

Bangalore: Youth Congress activists staged a protest here on Thursday against Railway Minister Sadanand Gowda and his family in the wake of a case being filed against his son, Karthik. They demanded justice.

The protests came a day after a Bangalore-based model had filed a case against Karthik Gowda, son of Union Railway Minister Sadananda Gowda, under Sections 420, 376 and 406 (charges relating to cheating, rape and dishonesty) of the Indian Penal Code.

The model claims that she got married to Karthik Gowda on June 5, 2014 after meeting him on May 8, 2014.

She said, "We know each other from May 8, 2014. This was after election, before the result. We became very close friends. We met because my family was looking for a groom, so for that reason I met Karthik. So he promised me that he will marry me. So he got married to me on June 5 2014 in his Mangalore house."

"His mother was not there. We both were there and driver was there," she added

The model also said that she wanted his family to accept her as their daughter-in-law, "I want his family to take me as their daughter-in-law. I will be a very good daughter-in-law."

Railway Minister Sadananda Gowda rejected the allegations, saying, "Shocked to see this report, it hurt me, my personal and public life is an open book."

He also said that since the news came right after his son Karthik Gowda ’s engagement, it seemed suspicious. Gowda also said he was looking into the matter and will give a briefing after knowing the truth.
