Dubai, Dec 19, 2014: Good news for expats celebrating Christmas in UAE. Finally there is an online store from where you can buy Christmas goodies. One of the first of its kind in the UAE, www.egrocer.ae is all set to launch this Christmas. To add to the excitement of the holiday season it has tied up with MACY’s, one of UAE’s finest confectionery to satisfy the huge expat diasporas in the region.

Mr. Ashok Furtado, Founder and Managing Director of www.egrocer.ae shared with us the reasons for the birth of egrocer.ae. Having lived in the fast paced, high stress Dubai work environment, he felt a need for a better way to spend quality time with his family. He realized that most of his free time is occupied in shopping at malls and hypermarkets. He had to find a way out and hence the idea of egrocer was germinated.

Currently  egrocer’s portfolio boasts of plum cakes, confections, Indian sweets, ethnic products, mangalorean Kuswar, flower bouquets and is all set to expand into a fully fledged grocery store in a couple of months. Delivery is limited to Dubai and Sharjah.

Mr. Furtado states “I think it is the right time for us to venture into online fast moving consumer goods market. It is relatively new and is unsaturated. It is still in its nascent stages and as an early mover; egrocer would have lots of advantages. Moreover consumers are just experimenting with these online stores and in a while, online shopping is going to be a routine just like any other form of retail. E-tailing is the future”. Mr. Furtado continues “UAE has the highest number of smart phone users in the world and ranks third in Internet penetration. Almost 56% of UAE’s population is already shopping online. With the launch of egrocer, we hope to make day to day shopping fun and easy for the consumer. If there were an online store three years ago, I would gladly sit in my car in a packed junction on a Thursday night waiting for the lights to turn green and do my Friday morning chores. Here is an opportunity to do just that. But please don’t use your phones while you are driving. Shopping can wait” he stresses.

Continuing his chat with us Mr. Furtado says “One more major indecision we face here in Dubai, is with gifts.  There is always confusion as what to gift and we end up washing our hands by giving a nice voucher saying “let them buy what they want”. Egrocer has a collection of common gift baskets which could be used as excellent gifts for parties and small get together’s. With the advance in technology, we are shrinking the world for good. How easy would it be for your uncle or a cousin to send you a gift on your birthday or anniversary or any festival, from somewhere in the world and we would deliver it to your door step. Our vision is to make life a little better and simpler for our customers.”
