Karnataka High Court’s Interim Stay Order against Thonse Panchayat’s revised Tax on building

Print Udupi : In regard to 31 Thonse Grama Panchayat had revised the 2014/15 taxes on House building, Karnataka State High Court given Ad-interim stay order to 31 Thonse Grama Panchayat President and Panchayat Development Officer against the petition filed in by P. Madhav Rao no. W.P.16857/2015(LB-TAX) for the collection of taxes on the building.
In his media conference at Udupi Press Club, P. Madhav Rao, the petitioner said that for the public interest he filed the suit against the revised tax imposed by the Thonse Panchayat has been not affordable for the island people of the panchayat area which too high without any benefits for the people.
31 Thonse Grama Panchayat during its 5th common meeting on 18/11/2014 as per the resolution no 50(1)/2014/15 the Panchayat had decided to revise the taxes on buildings during 2014/15 with majority of the members’ decision. Madhav Rao said that this revised rate of taxes which will be 700% to 2900% higher not affordable to the people at large.
He also said that the petition in regard to revised taxes which passed resolution in Panchayat would be illegal, not affordable, drawbacks etc., which not in favor of the people. He do not have any political background nor any political worker. He suited in court for the public interest and got the interim stay order from the high court.
Along with P. Madhav Rao the petitioner, other present during media meet at Udupi Press Club were Ramachandra Acharya, Krishnappa Poojary former teacher, B. Subbha Rao, P. Shyama Rao and Megharaj. P.

Kemmannu Panchayat is enhancing tax by 21 percent every two years.
