Udupi : The print media established in Mangalore by Rev Fr. Fredrick an missionary in 1834 through “Mangalauru Samachar” paper. Since 173 years the journalism has been changed lot and journalism converted instead social oriented to commercialization now. Most of the establishments like arts, sports along with media changed into commercialization. Journalism should have power to change the society. Journalists should not be burden to the society rather they have to be king for the society said N. Raju, President of Karnataka State working Journalists Association, Bangaluru during his inaugural address on Journalism Day which organized by Udupi District Working Journalist Association along with Udupi Press Club at Lions Bhavan, Brahmagiri near here on Friday, 3^rd July, 2015.

He said that journalists having plenty of opportunities even though they having various risk. He pointed out the importance of journalism. Under his leadership in Karnataka State he tried his best to support journalists at large in various ways.

Another Chief guest Madan Gowda member of National Journalist Association said that the journalism has been changed since 173 years. We should look for the betterment of the society through the journalism. Journalism having very good opportunities in the field and one should not think that due to electronic media, popularity of the print media never diminishes.

During the occasion both the guests N. Raju and Madan Gowda were felicitated by Udupi Working Journalist Association. A scholarship was handed over to Sandhya Gopal Shetty for her journalism course.

Senior journalists B. B. Shettigar who got Udupi district State Rajyahotsave Award in 2014 and Mohammed Sharif who donated blood 62 times for Blood Bank were felicitated during the occasion. Meanwhile the children of journalists Samanvi and Archana Upadyaya who won award in State level singing competition, Adithya Prasad Pandelu and Dheeraj for their achievements were felicitated.

Mrs. Rohini District Information Officer also gave his brief address. The President of Udupi District Working Journalist Association Jaykar Suvarna gave his presiding address.

Earlier the program was began with beautiful invocation prayer by award winners Samanvi and Archana. Ganesh Prasad Pandelu General Secretary of Udupi District Working Journalist Association welcomed the gatherings. Rajesh Shetty Treasurer proposed vote of thanks while Rahim Ujire compered the program. The large number of journalists, students of journalism and others were participated during the occasion.
