Udupi, July 18, 2016: The Catholic Sabha, Udupi Pradesh® , Diocese of Udupi in association with the School Children and forest department initiated five days of environmental drive in 5 Zones of the District in response to Pope call on environment. Pope Francis recently expressed his concern on the environment damages and global warming and called upon to protect the environment.
Accordingly they distributed the plant saplings in Kundapur on July 10, in Kallianpur on July 12, in Udupi on July 13, in Shirva on July 14 and in Karkala on July 15.
The school students were involved in the drive in order to spread awareness in them. They conducted rallies on the main streets of city. Each student was issued a plant saplings and given them the responsibility to look after that plant. They also planted the saplings in public places.
The forest department has given their complete cooperation for this environmental drive. Catholic Sabha, Udupi Pradesh, Diocese of Udupi reached its target of planting 10,000 saplings in these 5 days.
Mr. Valerian Fernandes, President, Catholic Sabha, Udupi Pradesh said that “Creating awareness among the children to take care of the plants after planting the sapling was the aim and we are satisfied reaching our target to distribute 10000 saplings.
Rev. Fr. Ferdinand Gonsalves, director Catholic Sabha, Diocese of Udupi said that the theme of this awareness programe was “Plant Tree, Reduce Heat and Save Life”.
