ECOLOGY DRIVE BY AIMIT MAGIS ASSOCIATION BEERI, MANGALORE

Mangalore, July 23, 2016: St Aloysius Institute of Management and Information Technology, Beeri is located a kilometre away from a kotekar junction. This campus is vast with acres of land together and 500+ students gaining knowledge round the clock.

One fine day it was found that there was a waste-bin kept and the garbage was littered all around the place and even in-front of the college premises. At a blink of an eye the garbage was over filled with waste because of which it created lots of ruckus. The foul smell was unbearable and the stray dogs started dwelling near the garbage creating fear in students to use the exit for any purpose. This has created lot of problems to the student and people residing inside the campus.

Meanwhile there was multiple requests made to the necessary authorities and there was no action taken. The situation was growing worse day by day. As last the students took a stand and vowed to clear the mess.  An initiative was taken by the students of AIMIT MAGIS ASSOCITION - ECOLOGY DRIVE was 15th July 2016, Friday and the premise was cleaned by them.

Post this on 21st July 2016 Students from the college and association had gone to the nearby Pattana Panchayath at Kotekar to request the removal of the litter box in front of the college. They spoke to the head of the Pattana Panchayath, President, Mr. Uday Kumar and explained about the problems they face such as the garbage being washed in front of the gates due to the rain which makes them difficult to walk, the foul smell being unbearable. As a result Mr. Uday Kumar, has agreed on terms and vowed to solve the problem.  This has also been brought to notice of Mr. Ivan D’Souza, MLC and KPCC spokesperson and as a result it is notified to the concerned authority to immediately act on clearing the garbage.

And on July 22nd official from Pattana Panchatyath, Revenue Inspector and Junior Engineer, other officers along with college students and public of the closest  were present at the spot for inspection and decided to clear the area within three days and insert a bill board to inform the public and shift the garbage disposal box to another safer environment for further disposal.
