KSRTC bus strike - CM announces 2-days Holiday - NO holiday in Udupi, DK

Mangaluru, Jul 24: The schools in Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts will remain open on Monday, July 25, communications from twin district administrations said.

Bengaluru, Jul 24: As the government transport employees are on strike CM Siddaramaiah has announced holiday for schools and colleges on Monday and Tuesday.

The government transport workers will go on a strike from Sunday midnight.

However, CM had said that the announcement applies to the parts of the state where students use government buses to go to schools and colleges. In places where students do not use KSRTC buses it is up to the deputy commissioner of those districts to whether to declare holiday or not.

Deputy commissioner of Dakshina Kannada has cleared that the schools and colleges in the district will continue as usual on Monday and Tuesday.

CM Siddaramaiah turns down KSRTC employees’ demand

Mysuru/Mangaluru: Around one lakh KSRTC employees and employess union and their BMTC counteparts have sent a notice to the government about going on an indefinite strike from July 25, demanding a 35% hike in their wages. The government which had initially offered a hike of 8%, has increased it to 10%.

Hectic round of negotiations that chief minister Siddaramaiah chaired in the presence of minister for transport Ramalinga Reddy at his home in Bengaluru on Friday, failed to break the impasse. The meeting saw H V Ananta Subbarao, general secretary of KSRTC Staff and Workers’ Federation, espouse the cause of workers on wage disparity and various other issues they face at work.

The chief minister on Saturday ruled out hiking the salaries of KSRTC staff by 35 percent as demanded by the KSRTC staff and workers federation and said the government would make alternate arrangements to ensure public transport services are not affected due to the strike.

The KSRTC staff are going on an indefinite strike from Sunday midnight demanding fulfilment of their long-pending demands including pay revision.

"The demand for a 35 percent hike in salary is not feasible as it will put burden on the KSRTC’s financial wealth. Salaries can be hiked to 10 percent from the 8 percent as proposed by the KSRTC. But KSRTC employees are not ready to accept this. If they go on strike, the government will make alternate arrangements, the CM said.

Meanwhile, home minister G Parameshwara said efforts are being made to persuade KSRTC employees to drop their plan to go on strike.
