Kallianpur/Santhekatte, July 26, 2016: The stretch of national highway 66 from Santhekatte to Ambagilu in Udupi witnessed a couple of accidents this morning. In the first accident which took place in Ambagilu Junction a car entering high way 66 from Ambagilu town hit the Lorry. Negligence from the part of car driver may be the cause of this accident. As per eye witnesses the lorry driver tried to avoid the car hit the divider and the car hit the lorry. Car driver injured and shifted to hospital.
In the second accident at the same junction on highway 66 a Maruti WagonR hit the Stranded Hyundai from behind, the injured were taken to KMC, Manipal
In another incident which reported yesterday a college student riding on a bike was knocked down by a bus at Kemmannu road near Santhekatte Junction. Social worker Vijay Sequiera from Mount Rosary, who was present at the spot immediately give first aid to the victim. The boy got the feet injury as the bus tyre passed on his feet. Luckily the boy escaped from the major tragedy. Social worker Vijay’s timely first aid help was appreciated by the locals.
Here in Santhekatte - Kallianpur - Kemmannu road the traffic woes were complicated by narrow roads, road side vendors and no footpaths. The basic infrastructure has taken a backseat in the planning of our roads. Can the elected representatives from this region know these complications and plan the future developments, vacate the unauthorised roadside vendors/shops, construct new footpaths/bridges and guarantee the rights, safety of pedestrians, two wheelers??
