Manipal : On the occasion of National Nutrition Week observation, Department of Dietetics at Kasturba Hospital Manipal, organized a one day “Nutritional update 2016” at Manipal on 3^rd Sept 2016. The Nutrition Update 2016 is the 4^th Edition of Update from the department with an objective to spread more awareness on the Nutritional Aspects and its importance in delivering comphrensive care to patients along with quality clinical Care.

The Nutrition update 2016 was inaugurated by Dr. Poornima Baliga, Dean - Kasturba medical College, Manipal and was presided over by Dr.Col.M.Dayananda COO & MS , Kasturba Hospital Manipal.

Speaking on the inauguration Dr.Poornima Baliga stressed the need to understand Nutritional Aspects in regular life as well as Clinical contribution, as most of the people in general do not give priority to the benefits of Nutrition and Nutritious Food.  It is Important that Clinicians and nutritionists works together for faster recovery through balancing the Nutritional requirements. In the Presidential Address Dr.Col.M.Dayananda stressed the requirement of having training during the Clinical Studies to ensure that clinicians and doctors are aware of the Clinical Requirements of nutrition during their regular clinical Care. The Nutritional Update 2016 was attended by more than 225 delegates including practicing Nutritionist, Dieticians, Clinical Doctors and Faculties from different places in Karnataka. Nutrition insight a departmental Magazine was released by Smt Yeshoda Nursing Superintendent, Kasturba Hospital, Manipal.

Dr. Sheetal Mahuamkar Renowned Nutritionist from Mumbai, Dr.Mumtaz Kalid Kahan leading Nutritionist from Kochi who made the scientific session on the Lifestyle Management, were among the external experts. Dr.Srikiran Hebbar Prof & HOD Department of Pediatrics, Dr.Ravindra Prabhu  Prof & Head of Nephrology on Role of nutrition in Chronic Kidney Disorders, lead discussion on clinical aspects. Ms. Pallavi Sherrigar Associate professor from WGSHA Manipal also provided insights.

A panel Discussion lead by Dr. Col.M.Dayananda Medical Superintendent and COO and guest Speakers discussed the role of Health care Staff and Nutritionist during this one day Nutritional Workshop was a key attraction for the participants. There were Model Making Competition and Poster Competition during the The Nutrition update 2016.
