Udupi : In regard to Karnataka Bandh called by pro-Kannada outfits to protest against the Supreme Court’s directions to release sufficient Cauvery water to Tamil Nadu, the opposition BJP and other pro – Kannada outfits staged protest at Udupi on Friday, 9^th September, 2016.

BJP leaders took procession from Judukatte near Big Bazar to Udupi Service Bus station and held protest and demanding resignation of Chief Minister of Karnataka who failed to dependant Cauvery water issue. State government is completely responsible for the issue of Cauvery water with Tamilnadu. Mattar Ratnakar Hegde said that there was severe shortage of water in the Cauvery basin. The team of legal team led by noted Supreme court Advocate had failed to convince the court on the ground of realities. Moreover the state government has failed to safeguard the interest of the people in the state on Cauvery and Mahadayi issues. He demanded to think about the counsel Fali S. Nariman replacement. BJP leaders tried to block the road in front of KSRTC bus stand, but timely presence of police, now allowed doing so to block the road.

Shyamala S. Kundar, Kulaidi Suresh Nayak, Yashpal Suvarna, Baikady Suprasad Shetty, former MLA Lalaji Mendon, Praveen Kumar Shetty Kappettu, Salim Ambagilu, Shivkumar Ambalpady, Yermal Shivaprasad Shetty, Shrisha Nayak, Nayana Ganesh, Ranjith Salian, Veena S. Shetty and other officials of the BJP were present during the padayathra.

Meanwhile pro-Kannada activists like Karmikara Vedike, Jayakarnataka, Karnataka Rakshana Vedike of Praveen Kumar Shetty group were held protest in front of Clock tower, near service bus stand Udupi. Jayakarnataka Udupi district president Janani Divakar Shetty, Karmikara Vedike Udupi district president Ravi Shetty were spoke during the protest meet. Leaders of Karmikara Vedike Sandeep, Suresh Sherigar, Chandra Poojary, Raghunandan and other volunteers of the Vedike, Jayakarnataka leaders S.S. thonse, Nagesh Saligrama, Ramesh Mendon and others, Kannada Sahitya Parished Udupi district President Neelavara Surendra Adiga and other among were present.

Karnataka Rakshana Vedike led by Praveen Kumar Shetty took the procession from Jodukatte to the Service bus stand in front of Clock Tower and held protest on Cauvery water issue. The effigy of Jayalitha burned during the protest. KRV state convener Prasanha Kumar Shetty, Santhosh Shetty district president, Ansar Ahmed, Nithin Shetty and other among were present.
