Print Dr Shiran Shetty, Associate Prof, Dept of Gastroenterology and Hepato-Biliary Unit, Kasturba Hospital Manipal was awarded the prestigious Harvard medical school Berenson scholarship and visiting fellowship in advanced endoscopy at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston USA. The Center is considered to be among the top medical centers in the world.
Dr Shiran gained valuable experience during the fellowship tenure. The opportunities he got to do different clinical work was enriching. Advanced endoscopic procedures like management of gastrointestinal bleeding endoscopically, management of various benign and malignant diseases of the biliary and pancreatic duct by ERCP, Spy glass cholangioscopy in Biliary disorders, are some of the latest technology involved in Advanced Endoscopic Technology he got to work on.
The training, added Dr Shiran Shetty, also included endoscopic removal of early tumor by procedure called as Endoscopic Mucosal Resection (EMR) and various mucosal ablative therapies for neoplasm like usage of Argon plasma, cryotheraphy , radiofrequency ablation and latest Endoscopic ultrasound in gastrointestinal disorders. Training in endoscopic management of obesity like balloon placement was another area of exposure during this program.
Dr (Col) M Dayananda Medical Superintendent and COO, Kasturba Hospital, Manipal said, “The training fellowship of Dr Shiran Shetty would be fruitful in providing advanced technological treatment to our patients here in Kasturba Hospital, Manipal”
