Bengaluru: Felix A. D’Souza Taccode joins Karnataka BJP

Bengaluru, Sep 27: Felix A. D’Souza Taccode, politician joined Bharathiya Janatha Party (BJP) on Monday September 26.

Felix A. D’Souza Taccode, who resides in Marol, Mumbai is actively involved in various trade unions and association joined BJP at its office in Jagannatha Bhavana Temple Street, Malleswaram, Bengaluru after receiving party flag from BJP state president B S. Yeddyurappa.

Felix A. D’Souza Profile:

Felix A. D’Souza, born and brought up in a small village of Moodbidri near Mangalore in Karnataka. Later on, for better prospects, I moved over to Mumbai. I joined BSES (Bombay Suburban electricity supply limited) now known as Reliance Energy Ltd. (REL) for employment and is actively involved in Union activities. My contribution to the union in particular and to the society in general was duly recognized and I slowly but steadily rose up the union echelons over the past years.


Having fully involved myself in the labour union movement, I have served as President of the labour union called “Bombay Electric Workers Union” of the Brihanmumbai Electric and Supply Transport (BEST), consisting of two companies, namely, BSES and BEST undertaking. This organization, under my fold, boasts of registered membership strength of 25,000 and is regarded as the largest union under the norms and parameters of the BIR Act in India.

Prior to serving as its President between 2000 and 2005, I was its Secretary (1987-1994) and Vice President (1994-2000) also. From 2000 to 2005, I have served as the executive member of the All India Federation of Electricity workers’ unions, headed by the veteran leader, A B Bardhan. I was the main architect of the smooth transfer of power from BSES to REL consequent upon the takeover.

In Mumbai, around 1993, I had served as an office bearer of the Sukanu Committee, founded by well-known anti-corruption campaigner, Mr.G.R Khairnar, the then deputy Municipal Commissioner for Bombay Municipal Corporation.

Since 2002, until date, I have been Vice President of “Jayashreekrishna Parisara Premi Samiti”, a Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) formed with the vision of former Union Defence Minister Mr.George Fernandes and with the blessings of Shri Shri Shri  Vishwesha Tirtha Swamiji of Pejawar Mutt, Udupi under the leadership of Shri Thonse Jayakrishna Shetty. This organization aims at promoting the undivided district of Dakshina Kannada as an industrially-advanced region, to achieve sustainable development by stressing on preserving the environment. The leaders and executive members comprises of heads of various communities of D.K i.e. Bunts, Billawa’s, Mogavira’s, Devadiga’s, Christians, Jain’s and more than 35 other communities which are  of Mangalorean origin operating in Mumbai)

At the time of the Kargil war, under my initiative, a sum of Rs One Crore was donated for the cause as contribution from the BSES (REL) employees and management and it was presented to the then Honorable Prime Minister Shri A.B Vajpayee.

From 2003 to 2006, I was appointed as Secretary of the Mumbai Regional Congress Committee (MRCC) for my contribution towards trade unions activities and social service in Greater Mumbai.

Being a firm believer in religious tolerance and harmony, I was offered to be the secretary of the Sarvajanik Mahaganapati Mandal of Marol, Mumbai, which is popularly known as South Indian Ganeshotsav ( Madarasi Ganapati, Marol), for the past ten years.

I was felicitated by Shri Shri Shri Jagdguru Balagangadharanath Maha Swamiji of Shree Adi Chunchanagiri Mutt on the occasion of his 60th Birthday, celebrated at Doddabalapura in appreciation of my achievements, participation and social service. The then Chief Minister of Karnataka, Shri S.M Krishna was chief guest on the occasion. I was also felicitated by Shri Shri Viswapriya Thirtha Shripada of Adhamaru Mutt Udupi and Konkani Bhasha Mandal (Regd.) Maharastra. in recognition of my achievements.

In the year 2004, I mooted the idea of forming a federation for all Christian denomination in Karnataka so that Christians should unite and fight for justice. Emphasis was laid on the “Role of Christians in Politics’” so that Christians should be encouraged to take part in politics under an active leadership to work together against injustice. For this cause I along with few others arranged many meetings with all political party leaders of Christian communities along with Mangalore Bishop Rt. Rev. Dr. Aloysius Paul D’Souza, Bishop Rt. Rev. Dr. Lawrence Mukkayi Bishop of Belthangady to fight for political cause of Christians in Karnataka. An idea to create fund to assist the aspiring eligible candidates was also introduced. The Association is called as “Federation of Karnataka Christians Association” and is headed by Shri Ronald Colaco, Hollywood Township, Bangalore.

I am an advisor to many Christian Organizations in Karnataka and Mumbai. viz. Federation of Maharashtra’s  Canara Catholic Associations ®, Christians United Movement of Karnataka,  National Network for Rights and Justice-India,  Seva Charitable Trust ® Mangalore.

I request you, in the light of my contribution service to the society and cordial I have maintained with leaders of all other political parties and religious denominations through out my carrier, with the aim of working together for a better society and a stronger nation.
