City Municipality warns Highway authorities to solve the Nittur Higway drainge problem within one week

Udupi : In relate to National Highway 66 at Nittur drainage works, the Highway authorities informed us to start work within one week. If within one week, highway authorities not repair the drainage works at Nittur, Udupi Municipality will take the work of drainage, said Sumithra R Nayak, President of Udupi City Municipal Council.



She informed in the monthly general meeting of Udupi CMC on Friday, February 26 at Sathyamurthy Hall here, councilor Vijay Kodavoor informed the chair that due to delay in solution of Indrani river water flowing with bad smell, the people of around four wards facing severe environmental problem and not able to live in these areas due to bad smell of drainage water. He threatened in the meeting that if within one week, the said drainage work problem not solved, I am going to sit in municipal office with after having bathe in dirty water.

The Municipal Officials informed during the meeting that at Alevoor Solid Waste unit, every day Solid wastes 25tonne to 30 tonne has collected and it will convert into manual by Window Compost system. There is lot of demand for this manual from the farmers as well and need to fix the price of the manual. Already distributed about 124 tonne manual free of charge to the farmers, the officials said.

Krishnarao Kodancha said that during the previous election manifesto, we told the people that if we come to power in the City municipality, we will reduce the trade license fees. During 2014, then ruler of municipality abolished the maximum limit of Rs.500 and increased the trade license fees. The members demanded to reduce the fees of trade license of various shop owners. Krishnarao Kodancha demanded the same trade license fees of Rs. 500.


In reply of decrease of trade license fees demand, the municipal officers said that in order to get income for the municipality there should need to increase the fees. It is not fair to reduce the license fees to big traders. Ramesh Kanchan opposition leader said that if there is more fees, now you are in power, need to reduce the same.

There would be golmal in Independence day celebration bills which total bill amounted Rs. 2.11 lakh for Shamiyana, lighting, sitting, generator, screen, air cooler, M C stand and others. Girish Kanchan member and president of standing committee told that the bill amount is too much and it should need to fix the amount rather putting tender for the celebration.

President Sumithra R Nayak said that there has been sharp increase of street stray dogs in municipal areas. There was the case of one death of small kid due to bite of stray dog. Hence, there should need to solve the street stray dogs’ problems at the earliest.

Girish Kanchan said that due to heavy parking problem in the city limit; need to clear the shops on the parking places of commercial buildings in the city. Meanwhile, encroached shops on the footpath of the side of the roads should be cleared within April month.

The municipal officials said that in order to give awareness for the public on clean the city and clean the environment under Swachh Bharat, need to establish public lavatories, need to train people to establish solid waste composed pipe. The municipality received Rs. 10 lakh for the purpose of swachh city campaign.

Vice President Laxmi Mendon and Udaya Kumar Shetty were present during the meeting.
