Monti Feast celebration at Kemmannu Church.

Kemmannu, September 08, 2019: Monti feast, Nativity of Blessed Virgin Mary, the festival of new harvest was celebrated on Friday in Kemmannu, with traditional gaiety and fervor.

Early morning 7.30 hundreds of faithful gathered at the church ground. Blessing prayers were held near the church Grotto.  Parish Priest Fr. Victor D’ Souza blessed the fresh crop of rice corn with a brief introduction.  ’Moriyeek Hogolsiyaa’ hymn was sung as children offered the flowers to Virgin Mary.

The high mass was celebrated by Fr.Victor D’ Souza with Fr. Herald Pereira as the Co-Celebrant. Fr. Herald delivered a powerful homily highlighting the importance of worshiping Mother Mary and about the importance of the day and family bonding. He asked the gathered to involve in community building activities of the church.

Children who brought and offered flowers on all 9 days of Novena were given a special prize, which was distributed by Fr. Victor before a few days.

After the mass, a CD “Samudai” with hymns of Small Christian Community was unveiled at the Church Veranda by Fr. Victor D’ Souza. The CD is produced by Fr. Herald Pereira, Director of Small Christian Community of Udupi Diocese. All songs in the CD are written and composed by Fr. Herald. Kemmannu Choir group members Mrs. Janet and Glinda  D’ Souza have lent their voice for a few hymns in the CD.

Parish council members distributed the new rice corn to all those gathered at the church. Later sugar cane of distributed to all Gurkars, sponsors, who sponsored the sweets on Novena day’s and to all the children and parishioners. Sweet Kheer (Vorn) sponsored by Mr. & Mrs. Jayaprakash D’ Souza and Mr. & Mrs. Archibald Menezes was distributed to the gathered.

Dr. Vivian D’ Souza S/o late George Paul and Juliana Felcy D Souza was the Firgent of the feast who apart from other things sponsored the Sugar cane.

Monti fest is also called as the ‘Family Feast’. It is an occasion for all the family members to come together and have the traditional lunch together. Many children, who stay outside Kemmannu, visited their parent’s homes.
