One day International Symposium, Retail Tech, was held at Milagres College Kallianpur.
On Monday, 9th January, 2023, the enthusiastic students and Teachers had a wonderful opportunity to participate and listen to a team of three eminent resource persons who were well-versed in the field of commerce, trade and start-ups and other related concepts.
The Department of Commerce along with IQAC cell of the Milagres College organised a Seminar which was given a start at 10.00 AM by invoking Almighty Lord’s blessing by the students of Final B.Com. Prof Shylet Mathias, Dean and HOD Dept of Commerce, extended a cordial welcome to guests, dignitaries and resource persons – Mr Nithin Kumar, Senior Portfolio Manager – Lurion Capital, USA, Mr Bernd Strenitz, CEO Smart Gift USA, Mrs Monica Kochhar CEO Toffy .io, USA and escorted them to the dais.
Prof Kusuma Makwan, Dept of Commerce, who compeered the beautiful event, requested the guests to light the traditional lamp which always a symbol of knowledge, peace and sacrifice.
The Chief Guest of the colourful event, Retired Prof Hilda Rodrigues, earlier served in Mialagres College, as HOD Dept of Economics, while delivering the mind blowing key note address, called back her days in the College and the changing circumstances in the education system and called upon the participants to make best use of every single opportunity offered in the process of learning as they are anxious to listen to the internationally known speakers today.
Dr Vincent Alva, Principal of College, presided over the inaugural ceremony, expressed his views on present education system, which is in the process of making the students employable and this symposium too is an effort in that direction, as the College invited famed entrepreneurs and start-up experts to address and share their experiences and hoped that this seminar undoubtedly one which will be very useful to the students and teachers.
Prof Radhika Patkar, proposed vote of thanks to all who made this event possible, successful and worthy one with their active participation and cooperation.
Then it was the beginning of the first session. Mr Nithin Kumar, the Senior Portfolio Manager, M/s Lurion Capital was briefly introduced to the audience by Prof Chaitra K and escorted him to the podium to take charge of the exhaustive lively presentation. He specially focussed on Hedge Funds and how they are different from other investments especially mutual funds etc. He also clarified the doubts and answered the questions raised by the participants.
Mr Bernd Strenitz, a native of Austria now settled in New York City, USA who conceived and led two start-ups, the first one now acquired by Sony Music and the latter SmartGift where he is serving as CEO and Mrs Monica Kochhar, a famed woman entrepreneur deservedly covered by Forbes, CNBC Huffington Post and many more for her achievements and contribution, who was native of India and now lives in New York City USA and successfully leading Toffy.io a block chain enabled retail engagement platform, handled the second session and were introduced to the gathering by Prof P. Archibald Furtado, Dept of Commerce and escorted to the stage to continue with the session..
It was very interesting to listen to the success story of Mr Bernd Strenitz which had both ups and downs and summarised with four principles – building relationships, hiring, working and teaming up with good and trust worthy people and by learning to balance instincts and feelings and being analytical. He also gave seven tips to imbibe including the formal training and doing what is interesting and passionately enjoyed with patience and perseverance.
Mrs Monica Kochhar shared her own experiences and observed that this decade rightly belong to flourishing and fast developing Incredible India, where it opened up for progress. Retail i.0 to Retail 3.0 in facilitating Shopping journey now reached to a stage not physical but digital. She emphasised on young would be graduates to equip themselves to be able to stand on their legs and look within themselves to reinvent their strengths and then collaborate with right partners for business start ups.
In the end it was a lively, useful and memorable symposium to all the participants and the Convenors, the organising team and the Principal for their initiative rightly chosen a relevant subject to discuss and derive inspirations from learned resource team.
While concluding the Seminar, Prof Kusuma Makwan who aptly compeered the whole event so meticulously, thanked all – the principal Dr Vincent Alva for his support and encouragement, IQAC Coordinator Dr Jayaram Shettigar, Dean & HOD Prof Shylet Mathias, Prof Ganesh Nayak, Prof Karthik Nayak, Dept of Commerce and all their colleagues who worked tirelessly for preparing for the event on the one side and Prof Hilda Rodrigues, all the three distinguished resource persons and other guests and participants both students and teaching faculty members and all who made the symposium a great success.
