Rare photograph of Late B. V. Gopalakrishna Rao - Presidential Award Winner from Thonse/Kemmannu.

Kemmannu, Oct, 2017: Kemmannu.com has got the privilege to publish this rare photograph belongs to Late Sri.B.V Gopalkrishna Rao from Thonse/Kemmannu region who was awarded the national award from the president of India in the year 1962. Late B.V. GopalkrishnaRao,Head Master of Hindu Higher Primary School, Kemmannu, received this prestigious presidential award   in 1962 from the then President of India Dr .Radhakrishnan. This photo relates to the felicitation given to him in the school premises by the school management.

B. V. Gopalkrishan Rao was born and brought up in Moodukudru of Tonse East village in Udupi District. He had his secondary Education in Central High school Coorg, completed his teacher’s training from Govt Training school Mangalore.

During that period he came in contact with Dr.Shivaram Karanth and got training in dramatics. He started his career as a teacher in Milagres Secondary school, Kallianpur and then he became the Head master in Hindu Higher Elementary school, Kemmannu. When compulsory Education was introduced he became the secretary and worked hard for the introduction of the scheme. He was interested in wood work and carpentry which he introduced in this school as craft training.

He became the secretary of Teacher’s centre of the neighbouring schools and gave valuable guidance to all the teachers. For all these valuable work in the field of education he was awarded with the President’s National award in 1962. That time there were 19 teachers & more than 800 students in this Hindu Higher Elementary school, Kemmannu.
