Great relief for Citizens as Kemmannu Road touches the finishing line.

Kemmannu, Feb 8, 2019: At last widening work and asphalting of Kemmannu main road is completed. The widening work which started a year ago faced many hurdles including vacating and trimming of shops and rebuilding the same. Mrs. Veronica Cornelio ably supervised and got the job done with the help of a small team of volunteers. Incidentally the job was completed exactly one year after it was started i.e., 6th of February.

After the initial progress of demolition and construction of drainage work a break was taken by the contractor due the rainy season. Unfortunately due to one reason or other didn’t get a start even after December end. Meanwhile the existing road got deteriorated and it was a nightmare to vehicle owners and pedestrians to travel the distance from Church cemetery to Kemmannu Bridge. Then again there was the problem of paying compensation for few shop owners who had demanded compensation for rebuilding the part of the building which was demolished. At last the matter was raised in the Kemmannu Grama Sabha meet by the citizens.

Again Mrs. Veronica Cornelio took up the challenge and got a promise from the PWD Engineer that he will ask the contractor to start the work by middle of January. True to his promise the work began around end of January and is completed now except for a favor finish coat, which will be completed at a later date. For monitory compensation a small collection drive was initiated and several donors responded and 5.55 lakhs was collected within a few days, which was paid as compensation and for minor constructions.

No need to say it was a challenging and ambitious project. The support of the land and shop owners was admirable. The support of the citizens and the volunteers who toiled day and night is very much appreciable. Hope we Kemmannites will have a happy and Joyous ride hereafter.

To avoid accidents by speeding vehicles road humps should be built near each bus stops (both ways) like Jr. College cross, Gudiam temple, Church and one or two at the stretch between Convent and Sarovar Bar.

In a few years there will not be any pedestrians. Only motorists. No one will walk even to visit a next door neighbour, thus to cars.

Great to see our kemmannu roads getting upgraded, however I do not see pedestrian path. Are we dedicating a lane for pedestrian or they will walk on the side of the road while vehicles are still on the road.
