Two unclaimed bags recovered from different parts of the national capital at the gap of around three hours created panic on Monday. While one of the bags was found to be containing explosive, which was consequently defused, the other one was later claimed by its owner.

The first bag, which looked like containing a laptop, was spotted around 2 pm. According to sources, a man driving a car saw two motorcycle-borne youth abandoning the bag outside the Army Research & Referral Hospital in the city’s high security cantonment area.

The police received a call a little after 2 pm about the suspicious bag lying near the hospital premises in Dhaula Kuan. The police and the army’s bomb disposal squad examined the suspicious material and sought the help of National Security Guards (NSG) to defuse the bomb, which was suspected to be an improvised explosive device (IED).

The NSG defused the explosive outside the hospital premises around 5 pm.

Police were suspecting that the army hospital could have been on the terror radar, but the terrorists changed their plan at the last moment. The recovery of explosive comes just a few days after two blasts in Hyderabad in which 16 people were killed.

Even while the NSG personnel were defusing the bomb in Dhaula Kuan, the police received a call informing about a suspicious bag lying on a motorcycle at the M block market in Greater Kailash-1.

The area was cordoned off and bomb disposal squad was called in. However, soon after the vehicle owner arrived there to claim it. The police let the man take his vehicle after verification.
