Lalit Modi to P Chidambaram: My passport was cancelled illegally by you
Lalit Modi said that his passport was illegally cancelled by senior Congress leader P Chidambaram but was given back to him by the honourable high court.
Replying to P Chidambaram’s claim that the Enforcement Directorate had cancelled the passport of Lalit Modi in 2011, the former IPL boss on tweeted that it was illegally done by the senior Congress leader. Modi said the passport was illegally cancelled but was given back to him by the honourable high court.
Earlier during the day in a press conference, Chidambaram had rubbished the allegations made by Lalit Modi that he became a target of political vendetta during the UPA rule, saying the charges made by the former IPL chief are laughable and don’t even deserve a reply.
The former finance minister told media that the passport of Lalit Modi was cancelled in 2011 on the request of the ED. He maintained that Modi was being investigated under laws of India with no right to travel outside India or to live in UK.

The Congress leader wanted the government to release the letters exchanged between him as Finance Minister and the Chancellor of Exchequer George Osborne in which he had urged for sending Modi back to India since he was facing criminal charges here.
He said after the reply to his first letter, he had written a second letter couched in stronger words to Osborne that Modi was facing investigations in India, his passport has been revoked, he had no right to live in the UK and he should be sent back to India.
Chidambaram raised the question if Swaraj wanted to help Modi as a humanitarian gesture as was being claimed why did she not write to the Indian High Commission and ask for the issue of Indian travel documents to him instead of recommending issue of UK travel documents.
In an interview to a TV channel after the fresh controversy involving Sushma Swaraj and Rajasthan Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje, Modi had accused Chidambaram of making him a target of “political vendetta” in the aftermath of Congress leader Shashi Tharoor losing his ministerial job following the IPL scam.
