Seers visit Kairana, slam BJP’s ’politics of hate’

Meerut: A team of Hindu seers on Sunday visited Kairana to probe allegations by BJP MP Hukum Singh that 346 Hindu families had fled the small town due to persecution. Swami Chakrapani, one of the five seers who visited Kairana, slammed BJP for playing the "communal card".

Swami Chakrapani, president of Akhil Bharatiya Sant Mahasabha, told TOI that Hindus and Muslims alike had been worried about rising crime there.

Samajwadi Party member and UP cabinet minister Shiv pal Yadav on Friday had suggested that a team of "apolitical" Hindu seers ascertain the facts on the ground.

The team of seers also included Akhil Bharatiya Sant Mahasabha ’s Haryana president Swami Kalyan, president of Sant Samiti Devendranand Saraswati, founder of Shri Kalki Foundation Pramod Krishnam and Swami Chinmayanand of the Sant Mahasabha.

"It is wrong to claim that there is any religious angle to the problem in Kairana. BJP and its MP Hukum Singh are playing the communal card. It seems their only agenda is to win elections by striking fear in the hearts of Hindus in the region. We strongly condemn the politics of hate and fear mongering," Chakrapani told TOI. He added, "The problem in Kairana is not that Muslims are dominating Hindus.The problem is crime. Criminals have no religion. Local goons have terrorised people of all faiths. Hindus and Mus lims alike are concerned about rising crime. Now, however, gangster Mukeem Kala has been put behind bars. The way this issue has been given a communal colour is wrong.Within three days, we will prepare a report and submit it."

"Shivpal Yadav had on Friday suggested that a fivemember team of "apolitical persons" visit Kairana to find the truth behind the allegations. "We suggest Pramod Krishnam, Swami Kalyan, Naraina Giri, Swami Chinmayanand and Swamy Chakrapani go and see the reality and give a report. I urge them through the media to visit there as soon as possible," Yadav had said.

Terming UP chief minister Akhilesh Yadav’s decision to invite seers to visit Kairana as "honest", Chakrapani said, "Akhileshji deserves applause. Despite knowing that we (seers) are followers of Hinduism, his government has shown trust in us. It is now our job to present a true and unbiased picture of Kairana."
