Print Bhatkal: Officials seize illicit liquor from Matsyagandha Exp
Bhatkal: Railway Protection Force (RPF) personnel seized the illicit liquor consignment is being transported in general coach of train no. 12619 Matsyagandha Express at Bhatkal station.
Seven gunny bags containing 864 bottles of illicit liquor packed in 18 carton boxes were stashed under a seat. Passengers in the coach were questioned by the RPF. Since no one came forward to claim the consignment and no suspect was found in the train, the consignment was handed over to the local police at Bhatkal for further investigation.
PSI/ Bhatkal registered the case vide 169/2014 u/s 32 and 34 of Karnataka Excise Act. The approximate value of seized liqour bottles is Rs 30,240.
A.N Sinha, IG cum Chief Security Commissioner of Konkan Railway said, “since frequent illicit movement of liquor is noticed in trains on this route, Konkan Railway has intensified regular drives to arrest this menace. In this year itself from January, we have seized 3570 number of illicit liquor bottles worth over Rs one lac.”
RPF Constable Maruthi and Constable Praveen K along with local police personnel of Karwar jointly checked the front general compartment of the train upon its arrival at Bhatkal Station.
