Man arrested for stealing jewellery from in-laws’ house

MANGALURU: A man was arrested for stealing gold ornaments from his in-laws’ house in Padumale on Thursday.

Anil Kumar, 27, a resident of Hosakote in Bengaluru, is married to Kumari, daughter of Madhava Parava. He had gone to his in-laws’ house on March 21. He also visited his wife’s aunt Seetha’s house in the neighbourhood. He observed gold jewellery kept in the house.

The next day, when there was no one at Seetha’s house, Anil sneaked inside and made away with jewellery worth Rs 60,000. However, Madhava, his father-in-law had noticed his son-in-law entering the house. When the theft came to light, they suspected Anil and it was revealed to police during investigation. Puttur police arrested Ail and booked a case.

Rowdy-sheeter arrested

Dakshina Kannada police arrested a rowdy-sheeter in connection with abduction and demand for ransom from a youth, at Kodapadavu. The accused is Haneef, 36, resident of Kukkebettu in Bantwal. Haneef, who is ganja addict and faces several criminal cases against him along with his three accomplices, had abducted Razaq, 30. The victim was abducted over a trivial fight, at Kamabalbettu under Vittal police station limits on Sunday around 1.45pm. After abducting, the gang took away Rs 10,000 from Razaq and demanded Rs 2 lakh as ransom. Police, who started investigating the case, tracked the gang carrying Razaq near Derlakatte in a car. When police followed and tried to intercept them, the miscreants fled from the spot after abandoning the car. Later, police arrested mastermind Haneef near Kodapadavu on March 22. Search is on for the other accused.

Thief arrested

Dakshina Kannada district police arrested a person on charges of stealing gold jewellery from the house of Obayya Naik, a resident of Vidyanagar, Nidigal in Kalmanja village of Belthangady taluk. Police recovered gold jewellery worth Rs 1.50 lakh from the possession of Balakrishna Kulal, 33, of Kavalmuduru village in Bantwal taluk. The incident took place some time between March 14 to 20 when the complainant and his wife Kushala were away from the house leaving only Obayya’s aged mother behind. A case was registered at Dharmasthala police station.
