Print MUMBAI: PREGNANT WOMAN AND HER HUSBAND THRASHED IN TRAIN ON CENTRAL RAILWAY
In a shocking incident, two commuters trashed a man and his pregnant wife, who were travelling in a train from CSMT to their home in Vitthalwadi, located in Ulhasnagar, in the northern suburbs of Mumbai.
The couple, Dinesh and Aruna Tiwari boarded a train from CSMT at 7 pm - a time when the crowd is almost rib-crushing - after Aruna was discharged from Cama Hospital after three days of treatment. Since Aruna was eight months pregnant, the couple boarded the differently-abled compartment. However, as if by a stroke of bad luck, two commuters, who boarded the same compartment from Kurla questioned Aruna and Dinesh’s presence in the compartment and demanded that they show certificates of disability which allow them to travel in the compartment. The two unidentified men then started beating up Dinesh. When Aruna tried to intervene and explain that they boarded the compartment since she was pregnant, the two men bashed and kicked her too!
This is when fellow passengers in the compartment and adjacent compartment sternly asked the two to stop. Reportedly, this is when the accused got scared and de-boarded the train at Dombivli station.
Following this, Dinesh and some fellow passengers headed straight to Kurla GRP and lodged a complaint there against unknown culprits.
However, the ordeal was not yet over for Dinesh. He had to wait for three long hours to file a complaint. To give the GRP official a hint of how serious this matter was, the witnesses present at the time of incident showed him the pictures and videos they took.
Despite this, senior GRP officer at Kurla, P.I.Hiremath only filed a non-cognizable offence report. When the media questioned the reason for filing an NC, Hiremath replied, "The two commuters boarded in the compartment from Kurla, so only Kurla GRP can investigate the matter further."
