Kundapura: Friday early morning, an unidentified vehicle hit two pedestrians who were returning back from a Yakshagana programme along NH.66. One of the pedestrian dies on the spot while the other is grievously injured. The vehicle is absconding.
The deceased has been identified as Prabhakar Poojary (27) of Navunda. He is the son of couple Subba Poojary and Laxmi Poojary and used to work at a hotel in Kundapura.
Suresh Adakanta (50) of Heruru, is the other pedestrian who is been grievously injured and is receiving treatment in the ICU of Manipal Hospital.
The duo had gone for Yakshagana after finishing work on Thursday and was returning back to Navunda. They took a lift till Maruvante from a lorry and decided to walk the remaining distance.
It is understood from a CCTV of a hotel near the accident location that the incident took place after midnight around 1:33am. In the morning around 6:30am, a woman who was on her way to deliver milk to a dairy found the injured on the roadside. When localities emerged to help the fallen, it was found that Prabhakar was dead on the spot. The grievously injured Suresh was first taken to Kundapura Hospital from where he was transferred to Manipal Hospital.
