Speaking at district consultative meeting for banking development of the district held at meeting hall of Zilla Panchayat here on Wednesday, he said the villagers will be provided with bio-metric card which identified the thumb impression. This helps operation of SB accounts for receiving money under pension schemes and wage payment under MGNREGS by the villagers without going to branches.

Business

He said banks in Dakshina Kannada have crossed business level of Rs 24,844 crore as on December 2010. This level of business is achieved by 426 bank branches in the district which includes deposits of Rs 16,018 crore and advances of Rs 8,826 crore.

He said that under district credit plan, disbursement to priority sector advances was Rs 1,653 crore against the yearly target of Rs 2,726 crore.

Priority sector advances comprises lending to agriculture—Rs 843 crore, Small Scale Industries— Rs 333 crore, other priority sectors— Rs 475 crore. Banks have also lent to 68,884 farmers, cumulatively under Kisan Credit Card Scheme, Rs 1,030 crore to women, Rs 1,220 crore to weaker sections of the society. The level of priority sector advances in the district is Rs 5,591 crore which constitute 63 per cent of the total advance.

The level of advance to agriculture sector was Rs 1,861 crore which constitute 21 per cent of total advance.

The minorities were lent to the extent of Rs 1,548 crore.

The NRI deposit in the district is Rs 2,195 crore which constitute 14 per cent of total deposit.

Beneficiaries

He said under Backward Classes and Minorities Development Corporation Schemes, banks have sanctioned 178 cases under Chaithanya Scheme and 450 cases under Swavalambana Scheme. About 148 Self Help Groups were sanctioned loan with subsidy involving Rs 149 lakh under Swarnajayanthi Gram Swarojgar Yojana (SGSY).

Under Vajapayee urban housing scheme or Namma Mane which is being implemented through municipal corporation and town panchayats, the unit cost of the house is Rs 1.30 lakh. Out of this, Rs 50,000 will be subsidy component from the government, beneficiary has to bear Rs 30,000 and the remaining Rs 50,000 will be provided as bank loan. About 1,325 beneficiaries will be benefited from this scheme in the district.

A total of 29,143 Self Help Groups were sanctioned loans amounting to Rs 251 crore in the district. Under Prime Minister Employment Generation Programme (PMEGP) 87 beneficiaries were sanctioned bank loans, subsidy amounting to Rs 194 lakh, against the target of 69 beneficiaries.
