Man hits wife with stick, causes her death in UAE after she asks for mobile recharge card

He says he hit her with a stick on her head after she did not let him finish his prayer and take rest.

A 58-year-old Arab man allegedly hit his 49-year-old wife to death with a stick after she asked him to get her a mobile phone recharge card to talk to her family in her home country, the Ajman Criminal Court has heard.

The accused told the police that while he was praying, his wife insisted him to bring her a mobile recharge card. He said he got upset because she didn’t allow him to take rest and finish his prayer. He lost his temper and in a fit of rage, struck her head with a solid stick but didn’t mean to kill her, the man added. He said she became quiet after being hit, and he went out to bring the recharge card. After coming back, when he tried to wake her up and hand over the card, she didn’t respond, the man claimed.

According to police records, the accused called the ambulance when his wife refused to respond, thinking she was alive and had only passed out due to the assault. When the ambulance arrived, the paramedics found that the woman had already passed away and called the police.

The police team, comprising officers from CID, patrol, crime scene and forensic departments, rushed to the site. They found that the woman had died due to internal bleeding in the brain caused by the violent blow to her head.

The accused has been detained for more interrogation and investigation.
