Kumaraswamy demands reconstitution of committee set up to study Indian culture

Former Karnataka Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy Wednesday expressed his disapproval of the expert committee set up by the Union Ministry of Culture to conduct a holistic study of the origin and evolution of Indian culture.

Pointing out the absence of Kannadigas and south Indians in the proposed committee, Kumaraswamy said, "The Centre has constituted a 16-member expert committee to study Indian culture for the past 12000 years. It is very unfortunate that the expert committee does not have any Kannadigas or South Indians who know Dravidian culture."

Further, criticising the decision for not including a female member in the same, he questioned, "We are the people who compared the country to our mother and the holy cow. How is that the committee to study the culture of a country that worships women do not have a place for any woman."

"There is a dire need to reconstitute the study committee," the Janata Dal (Secular) leader said.
